Fortnite Melee Weapons Explained
Fortnite melee weapons are niche tools. While Fortnite has an arsenal of fun and wacky guns and throwables, the melee weapon options are limited. This guide will go over what a Fortnite melee weapon is, how to get a Fortnite melee weapon, and how to use a Fortnite melee weapon to complete the Dire Wolf Pack questline punchcard.

What Is A Fortnite Melee Weapon?
Melee weapons are a specific subtype of weapons in Fortnite. Unlike guns and grenades, you can only use melee weapons at very close ranges. To balance out their lack of range, melee weapons typically deal significant damage per hit and do not require ammo.
The single primary and always available Fortnite melee weapon is the Harvesting Tool. The trusty pickaxe that all Fortnite players spawn in with is classified as a Fortnite melee weapon.
Outside of the Harvesting Tool, the Sideways Scythe is the only other melee weapon currently available in Fortnite. Past seasons of Fortnite featured other melee weapons like the Infinity Blade and the Lightsaber, but those items have since been vaulted.
How To Get A Fortnite Melee Weapon
The Harvesting Tool is available to all players at the start of a match, but acquiring the much more powerful Sideways Scythe will take some effort. Sideways Scythes can only be obtained via Sideways Chests, Sideways Anomalies, and through Crafting with Cube Monster Parts. The Sideways Scythe comes in six different rarities and has access to three different types of attacks.
Fortnite Melee Weapons: Dire Wolf Pack Questline Punchcard Challenges
A recent Fortnite update welcomed the Dire non-player character (NPC) to the Fortnite island. Like the other NPCs, Dire invites Fortnite players to take on a series of five quests called a punchcard. Dire’s punchcard is special in that two of Dire’s five challenges require players to get their hands on a Fortnite melee weapon.
Due to the confusion behind Fortnite melee weapons, many players have struggled to complete the Dire Wolf Pack tasks. But don’t worry, we’re here to help. Read on to find out how to damage wildlife with a melee weapon and how to eliminate Cube Monsters in The Sideways with a melee weapon.

How To Damage Wildlife With A Fortnite Melee Weapon
First, you’ll need a Fortnite melee weapon. If you don't feel like hunting down a Sideways Scythe, the Harvesting Tool will work.
With your melee weapon in hand, it’s time to search for some wildlife. Fortnite wildlife tends to roam around the same set locations each match. For example, our guide on Fortnite wolf locations details the precise locations on the island where you can find wolves. Search the common areas where Fortnite wildlife spawn until you come across a creature like a chicken, boar, or wolf.
Hit the wildlife with your Fortnite melee weapon until you have dealt a total of 40 damage. Doing so will complete stage two of the Dire Wolf Pack questline punchcard.
How To Eliminate Cube Monsters In The Sideways With A Fortnite Melee Weapon
Like the challenge above, the first step is to secure a Fortnite melee weapon. Conveniently enough, this stage of the Dire Wolf Pack questline punchcard will take you right to where you need to be to secure the best Fortnite melee weapon in the game.
As you are soaring across the sky in the Battle Bus, take a peek at the map and determine where Fortnite The Sideways is. Each Fortnite match, one random point of interest will be transformed into what is called a Sideways Zone. Alternatively, Fortnite players can find Cube Monsters and a Sideways Scythe melee weapon inside of a Sideways Anomaly.
Whatever the method, find a way into The Sideways. Inside of The Sideways are hordes of Cube Monsters. Take on these monsters with your pickaxe or grab a Sideways Scythe from a Sideways Chest. Defeating five Cube Monsters total with a Fortnite melee weapon will complete stage four of the Dire Wolf Pack punchcard.
Guns are cool, but there’s nothing like delivering a good old fashioned beatdown with a melee weapon. Stay tuned here at GGRecon for Fortnite news, guides, features, and more.
