Konami has sent their football legacy to the butchers with their recent announcement, hoping that the mess that was Pro Evolution Soccer can be sliced up and transformed into a successful free to play model named eFootball.

Served up on a silver platter, eFootball aims to rival FIFA in ways PES could never do, especially in the multiplayer experiences.

Both Pro Clubs and Ultimate Team appealed to the wider footballing fan in FIFA, although everyone winces at the annual £60 that's ripped from bank accounts.

With a free-to-play subscription, eFootball is here to take players back to Konami's seats. But, can you play PS4 vs PS5 and Xbox Series X/s vs Xbox One on eFootball?

Konami has confirmed that PlayStation lovers will be able to enjoy the game to its fullest. Whether it's against your little brother on the old console, or against your rich friends on next-gen, you'll be able to play cross-platform on eFootball, including PS4 vs PS5.

Discussing eFootball's Cross-platform, Konami said: "Cross-platform online matches will be further improved with a new engine and adjusted to take *full* advantage of each platform."

Similarly, eFootball supports a cross-platform experience on Xbox too. The developers have confirmed that any PC and console can compete against each other upon its release, including Xbox One vs Xbox Series X/S.

Interestingly, Konami also plans for compatibility between console/PC and Mobiles/Switch.

Coming at a later date, and only with a supported controller, mobile players will be able to take on their Xbox counterparts. A date has yet to be confirmed for this, although it won't be a feature when the game launches in "Fall".

eFootball's announcement has caused quite a stir in the football community, with the general consensus being that it could finally be a viable alternative to the expensive FIFA tradition.
