Destiny 2 upgrade modules are some of the most necessary items in the game. Destiny 2 is an RPG and as such, players will need to gather new gear to get stronger. In order to level up pieces of gear that we want to use, we need upgrade modules. Here are all the ways you can gather Destiny 2 upgrade modules.

Destiny 2 Upgrade Modules: Season Pass

More than likely, the vast majority of your upgrade modules will come from the season pass. The layout of the season pass changes each season, but there has always been a decent amount of upgrade modules in each one. This season, Season of the Haunted, features a total of 31 upgrade modules. Considering you can only hold 25 at a time, that should be more than enough to keep you going.

There is a free track and a paid track on the season pass, and you only get the paid track items if you buy the season pass. That said, there are more free upgrade modules than paid ones. You get 19 modules on the free track, and 12 from the paid one. All upgrade modules come from the first half of the season pass, you get nine modules in the first ten levels, so the intention here is clearly to keep your pockets full of upgrade modules.

If you need a top-up, you can purchase more of them from vendors at the tower. Visit either Banshee-44 or Ada-1 to buy upgrade modules. Regardless of who you go to, the cost will be the same. Both vendors have two options for how to buy them, but the difference is negligible.

The cost of a single upgrade module is one enhancement core, 10 legendary shards, 25 planetary materials (these are the items you can pick up out in the wild), and 5000 glimmer. Upgrade modules aren’t particularly expensive considering how useful they are and how few you need overall. Feel free to purchase them as you need them.

There are some upgrade modules that can be earned from completing gunsmith bounties and increasing your rank with Banshee. You don't get a lot for the amount of work it takes, but if you like to complete those bounties anyway then those extra upgrade modules will be a handy bonus.

Destiny 2 Upgrade Modules: Witch Queen Campaign

On your first completion of the Witch Queen campaign, you can stock up on a pile of upgrade modules. Each story mission is made up of several encounters, and after every encounter the player is rewarded with a chest. That chest will have materials, some rewards that will help with levelling up early on, and an upgrade module.

Unfortunately, this is not a method that can be farmed, as you only get the upgrade module from your first completion. Still, completing the story campaign gets you a nice pile of upgrade modules. On legendary difficulty, there are two chests per encounter, meaning you can get two upgrade modules per encounter. This can be done on each character as well, meaning a couple of campaign completions should keep you well stocked in upgrade modules.

There is a way to passively accrue upgrade modules as you play. Ghost mods can be useful for all sorts of materials, upgrade modules included. The Modularity series of mods in particular, as equipping these will allow you to gain upgrade modules from regular activities.

There are three of these mods, one for Crucible, Gambit, and Vanguard activities. Equip one of these mods to give yourself a chance to gain an upgrade module from those activities. You can get them from completing strikes, winning Gambit matches, or winning in the Crucible. You can only equip one at a time, so be sure to equip the one that is relevant to your current activity.

Those are the ways you can get yourself plenty of Destiny 2 upgrade modules. For more on the game, check out our Destiny 2 Duality dungeon walkthrough.
