The Destiny 2 Magnum Opus quest is the latest exotic weapons quest to be introduced thanks to the Bungie 30th Anniversary event. As part of the event, Destiny players are able to get their hands on a tonne of weapons and gear inspired by video game entries of Bungie's past. The Destiny 2 Magnum Opus quest is turning heads and for good reason, so if you want to equip yourself with this nostalgia filled exotic weapon, then read on for our guide.

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus: What Does The Quest Reward?

For starters, you'll want to know what the Destiny Magnum Opus quest will net you. Players who complete the quest will be rewarded with the Forerunner exotic sidearm, which might not seem like a lot to start. However, Halo fans may recognise the design of the Forerunner, as it is incredibly reminiscent of the Magnum from that series - a series which Bungie originally developed.

The Forerunner Weapon is a powerful sidearm, which does incredible damage at range, especially for the type of weapon that it is. The Forerunner even includes a modernised version of the sights from the original Halo trilogy.

To launch the Destiny 2 Magnum Opus quest, all you need to do is complete the opening mission of the new event, collect a Treasure Key off of Xur when you are transported to Eternity, and then head back to Xur to pick up the quest once you have opened the chest right in front of him.

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus: Collect Strange Coin

To kick off your Destiny 2 Magnum Opus quest, you are going to want to get a hold of seven Strange Coins. This is the start of how to get the Forerunner in Destiny. Destiny die-hards may remember that Strange Coins were originally a currency used to upgrade and purchase weapons in the first Destiny game.

If you are wondering how to get Strange Coin in Destiny 2, all you have to do is take part in events. These include the new Dares of Eternity event, Vanguard Strikes, Crucible matches, Gambit matches, Heroic Public Events, and completing bounties. So take part in any of these events and you should collect your Strange Coin pretty easily. We found that you earned one Strange Coin per bounty and at least one for every game of Dares of Eternity. As a quick cheat, if you are planning to purchase the Bungie 30th Anniversary bundle, it comes with two packaged gifts which include a total of six Strange Coins.

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus: Complete Starhorse Bounties

Next up in our Destiny 2 Magnum Opus exotic quest guide we have Starhorse bounties. These are also a part of the new event. You can find Starhorse in Eternity at the Treasure Horde. It's literally a horse made up of stars so it is a little hard to miss. Approach Starhorse and collect three bounties.

You will need a total of 9 Strange Coins for this segment of the Destiny 2 Magnum Opus quest, as bounties cost three a pop. However, if you buy some of the more difficult bounties, you can actually complete this step with just one bounty.

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus: Find the Anomalous Object

Head back to the starting area pf Dares of Eternity as part of your Destiny Magnum Opus quest.

For the final steps of the Destiny Magnum Opus quest, you'll need to know how to pick up a Destiny 2 Strange Key. For this head on over to our Destiny 2 Strange Key guide. Once you've got that in the pocket, you'll want to head back to Xur's Treasure Horde in Eternity.

Once you spawn in, rather than running through to the main treasure room, turn around and you will see a pink and starry portal. Run through that and you will be transported to the Dares of Eternity starting area. Instead of running along the bridge, head in a north-easterly direction and you will see a cluster of rocks. Approach them with your Destiny 2 Strange Key and a new prompt will begin. It can be a bit tricky to bring up the prompt so you'll need to mess around a little.

Once that's complete you will follow a marker to a cave, where you will see an Orb. Jump on top of the orb and look down, balancing yourself as it lifts you up. Once you have reached a platform, dismount the orb. You will then be able to see a series of switching ledges jutting out of the wall. Climb all the way up and eventually you will discover a hidden cryopod.

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus: Speak To Banshee-44

Now all you need to do to see out the Destiny 2 Magnum Opus quest is take the Anomalous Object to Banshee-44 at the Tower. Once you hand that in you will be gifted the Forerunner exotic sidearm, or as Halo fans will know the Magnum pistol.

That's everything you need to know to find yourself in possession of a Destiny 2 Magnum Opus. Stay tuned on GGRecon for more Destiny 2 guides, especially as we get closer to the next expansion.
