Destiny 2 Empty Grief: Parameters Of The Challenge
The Empty Grief challenge tasks players with completing the Sever - Grief mission under certain conditions. The challenge states you must complete the mission using only a Void subclass and Void, Kinetic, or Stasis weapons.
These restrictions are fairly loose, and absolutely manageable. However, many players have stated online that they are having trouble completing the challenge. This has led to some suggesting that this challenge might be bugged.

Destiny 2 Empty Grief: Is The Challenge Bugged?
Some players have attempted this challenge and found it will not complete, which makes it seem as if the challenge is bugged. However, it seems there are some hidden elements of this challenge, and some reading between the lines is required. For example, you are given a scythe in these Sever missions, and the scythe does Solar damage. So it would seem that using the scythe will cause the challenge to fail.
Furthermore, there are other ways of accidentally doing the wrong types of damage, such as shooting a Scorn lantern that will also do Solar damage to enemies. Killing enemies with other damage types, even though it doesn’t come from your own weapon, seems to be enough to fail the challenge. So be sure to avoid those sources of damage.
One other potential issue is weapons that have Firefly or Explosive Rounds, as those could potentially also hamper your challenge completion. Try to stick to the wording of the challenge as closely as possible, and you should have no issue completing the challenge.
