Guardians worldwide are wondering how to complete the Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon, which was added to the game in Season of the Haunted. Bungie have promised a new raid or dungeon in Destiny 2 every three months since December 2021, which saw Grasp of Avarice followed by Vow of the Disciple in March 2022. Duality is the newest to join the ranks in late May 2022, and we've got a step-by-step walkthrough on how to successfully navigate its depths.

The Duality dungeon sees guardians enter deep into Calus' mind, listening to his every inner thought, worry and wonder as you navigate a series of rooms across two different streams of existence. There are three encounters you'll need to complete, as well as some mechanics to learn and lore to follow.

In true Bungie fashion, they're going to introduce a new mechanic to us which Guardians will utilise throughout the dungeon at different levels of difficulty. The most-used mechanic in this dungeon is the Bell of Conquest. With enough damage laid into them, they'll transport the entire fireteam into the nightmare realm. When travelling to the nightmare realm, you can be positioned anywhere, but when needing transportation back to the current reality there is a circle of safety around the bell that the whole fireteam need to be positioned in. Even an inch outside, and it spells instant death for the unfortunate Guardian.

These Bells of Conquest are utilised a lot, both in the main encounters and in the jumping puzzles used to navigate between them so spend some time getting used to how this works, as it's vital to survival and successful meandering throughout the dungeon.

Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon Walkthrough: The Nightmare Of Gahlran

The Nightmare of Gahlran, or the Sorrow Bearer, will be your first main encounter in the Duality dungeon. His immunity might seem terrifying; and he is no mean feat, capable of defeating you in one hit if your build isn't up to scratch, but this is a fairly simple encounter. Begin this phase by shooting the bell at the far end of the room to immediately warp to the nightmare realm, where Gahlran is running riot. There you'll find a bell at each end of the room, which each have a room either side of them.

Assign one member of your fireteam to kill two large Bellkeepers that spawn. A helpful hint is that the Bellkeepers will always spawn the opposite side of the room to the bell that you struck to travel. The remaining two players should check the side rooms for War Beasts and a Standard Bearer Psion. Killing the Psion will spawn a Standard, which will either be a Chalice, Sun, War Beast or Axes. Once collected, you'll see a buff in the lower-left hand corner of your screen, for example 'Standard Essence (Sun)' and this will confirm which you picked up.

Two Guardians should acquire a Standard, make your way to the safe circle of the bell with the other member of your fireteam and return to the normal realm. You'll now see four rooms with glowing symbols that correspond to the four possible Standard Essences you could have collected. Find the correct glowing symbol for the Essence you hold and deposit it here.

A door will then open, spawning a Colossus and a horde of War Beasts. Each person that deposited a Standard Essence should stand inside room after clearing the enemies, and the third should stay in the middle. Shoot the bell and you'll once again warp into the nightmare realm to kill Visions of Gahlran that have appeared. Once both sides have cleared these, a damage phase will happen.

Whilst this is occurring, the Guardian that stayed in the middle will need to kill the Bellkeepers that have spawned, as there is a countdown timer marked 'Nightmare Collapsing'. Once both sides are cleared of Visions of Gahlran, everyone should meet in the middle to cause as much damage as possible to the boss, whilst leaving enough time to get to the safety circle and ring the Bell of Conquest to return again to the normal realm and conclude the damage phase, rendering the Nightmare of Gahlran immune once again. Simply repeat this process over until you've caused enough damage to eliminate this nightmare and move on to the next stage of the Duality dungeon.

It truly wouldn't be a Destiny 2 dungeon if there weren't some puzzling involved somewhere, right? This time, there's a large room after the first encounter with a bell on a platform in the centre. There are four Cabal Bathers statues pointing in different directions surrounding this platform. Shoot the Bell of Conquest to travel to the nightmare realm and approach the back of the statue where you'll see a dial emblazoned with a likeness of Calus.

Interacting with this dial will not reflect anything in the nightmare realm, but in the normal realm it will cause that statue to rotate 90 degrees to the left. All of the statues should be facing their swords towards the platform with the bell on in order to open the door under the bell.

Upon starting this encounter, two symbols will appear on the floor, glowing as they were in the first encounter. There are no new symbols to learn throughout the dungeon now, it will always be chalice, war beasts, axes and sun. Clear the room of enemies and eliminate the Bellkeepers that spawn under the staircases on either side of the arena.

If you can't find them immediately, drop down a level as they're usually down here, but have been known to hop up onto higher ledges if they're not killed quickly enough. There are walls around the arena with the corresponding symbols adorned upon them. Assign a symbol to each Guardian and have them wait by that wall, whilst the third Guardian shoots the bell, triggering travel to the nightmare realm once again.

The Guardian who shot the bell is now responsible for killing Bellkeepers in the nightmare realm, whilst the other two Guardians should clear the rooms by their symbol. A Colossus will be waiting at the head of the room, so make that a priority.

A Standard Bearer will also spawn alongside other enemies, when the whole room is cleared collect the Standard Essence. This will increase the timer by 10 seconds and can be the difference between clearing this quickly and a whole fireteam wipe.

Head into the safety circle of the Bell of Conquest and damage it until you return to the normal realm. Deposit the Essence at the corresponding symbol to remove the boss' immunity shields. Killing these is very easy, and they don't have multiple phases, but there are three of them so you'll still need to repeat this process three times. The encounter will end when the third boss is killed.

Destiny 2 Duality Dungeon Walkthrough: The Nightmare Of Caiatl

Well, isn't this a familiar name? We all know that Calus and Caiatl have a somewhat troubled father-daughter relationship, but the lore surrounding this encounter and the collectibles hidden throughout the Duality dungeon reveal far more about it than we had ever known before, as well as Calus' current intentions and regrets.

This final encounter will utilise everything you've been doing so far, just much more intensely and with many, many more enemies. You'll definitely want to equip ad-clearing weapons and abilities, and be ready to run... a lot. Focus on killing enemies quickly when they spawn so you don't become overwhelmed.

Two symbols will appear on either side of the room, along with six Bellkeepers. Take note of the three smallers bells, along with one giant one in the centre of the room. Once the Bellkeepers are killed and you've assigned a symbol to two Guardians, find the corresponding balcony for that symbol and hop up on it. The third Guardian should again be in the middle of this arena. Shoot the Bell of Conquest to travel to the nightmare realm, and on your balcony a Standard Bearer Psion will spawn. Kill this quickly and collect the Standard Essence before making your way to the bell once the Bellkeepers have been eliminated.

This is where you're most likely to be overwhelmed by enemies, so help the third Guardian with kills as soon as you've collected your Essence. Transport your entire fireteam back to the normal realm to deposit your Standard Essences. You will then need to repeat this process, so four Essences are deposited, which will trigger a damage phase.

You'll know if you've correctly triggered the damage phase, as the chains surrounding the giant Bell of Consequence will begin to glow red. Clear out enemies and collect ammo if needed at this stage before shooting the chains. The chains will move and the giant bell will ring, before you're transported to the nightmare realm alongside the Nightmare of Caiatl.

Clear enemies and keep an eye on Caiatl to see which side of the room she heads towards. You want to reach the bell she's aiming for before she does, so be quick, and kill the Bellkeepers around the relevant bell. Shoot the bell when Caiatl is near to stun her, which will give you a buff and allow your damage numbers to be increased against her for a limited time before she moves to another Bell of Consequence in the room. Repeat this process for each bell and damage her as much as possible before heading back to the normal realm.

The cycle will repeat over until you've caused enough damage to kill her, so big damage-per-second (DPS) numbers are absolutely essential here, but remember you don't want to be using explosive weapons as you won't want to trigger any of the multiple bells in this room prematurely. It's also important to note that for this final stage, if Caiatl reaches the bell before your fireteam does, it will transport you all back to the normal realm and that damage phase is effectively lost, less any damage already inflicted.
