Destiny 2 Chain of Command: How To Unlock It
As the title of 'ritual weapon' suggests, unlocking this weapon requires completing ritual activities. This includes Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit modes. The weapon can be unlocked through any of the three, but only one at a time. Regardless of which you choose, the method for unlocking the Chain of Command is the same.
Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit each have their own rankings. Reaching the maximum level with any of these ranks will unlock the Chain of Command. Dedicate some time to work on one of these activities, and you should have no trouble getting the gun. If you can, try to take advantage of the weeks when there are double rewards for particular activities.

Destiny 2 Chain of Command: Ornaments
For a couple of seasons now, there has been a single ritual weapon per season, with unique ornaments dedicated to each ritual activity. This means players can acquire the weapon itself however they like, but rewards them with a particular ornament depending on how they go about it.
Attaining the weapon also grants an ornament in the style of the Vanguard, Crucible, or Gambit. You can gain all three ornaments, by reaching the maximum level in all three activities. If that sounds like a lot to do in a single season, then be sure to focus on the activity you like the most and the ornament you most want to get.
