How To Play The Call Of Duty Vanguard Alpha

The Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha was officially announced during the 2021 Call of Duty League Championship. The Alpha serves as a rare and limited opportunity to play the new Call of Duty title in advance of the official Call of Duty Vanguard release date on November 5. The Call of Duty Vanguard Beta won’t be available for another few weeks - but players can hop into the Vanguard Alpha far earlier than that. This guide will teach you everything you need to know about the Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha, including the Alpha start date and how to play.

Vanguard Alpha Dates: When is the Vanguard Alpha?

The Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha will be playable starting Friday, August 27 at 6 P.M. BST and lasts until Sunday, August 29 at 6 P.M. BST.

CoD fans looking to get into the Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha straight-away will want to take the necessary preparations. Players can pre-download the Vanguard Alpha starting Monday, August 23 at  3 A.M. PT / 6 A.M. ET / 11 A.M. BST.

Vanguard Alpha Sign-Up: How To Register And Play

To the delight of CoD fans everywhere, the Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha does not require players to do any registering or signing-up. Players can simply head to the PlayStation Store on the PS4 or PS5 and download the Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha for free. Specifically, the steps players must take to access the Vanguard Alpha are as follows:

1. Head to the PlayStation Store on the PS4 or PS5
2. Search for “Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha”
3. Select the Vanguard Alpha and click “Download”
4. Launch the Vanguard Alpha from either the downloads screen, your homepage, or the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Warzone, or Black Ops Cold War menus

Unlike the Vanguard Beta, the Vanguard Alpha does not require players to pre-order Call of Duty Vanguard or jump through any additional hoops. Furthermore, outside of Germany and Japan, the Vanguard Alpha does not require PlayStation Plus to participate.

Every player that participates in the Vanguard Alpha will receive a special Calling Card and Emblem in Vanguard, plus in Warzone following Vanguard’s integration.

Unfortunately, the Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha is a PlayStation exclusive. Xbox and PC players cannot participate in the Vanguard Alpha.

Vanguard Alpha Download Size

The Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha will require roughly 20GB of space to download. Players looking to participate in the Vanguard Alpha will want to ensure they have adequate space on their hard drives. 

Vanguard Alpha Game Modes: What Is Champion Hill Mode?

The Call of Duty Vanguard Alpha will focus on the Champion Hill game mode. Champion Hill is a brand-new original game mode arriving in Call of Duty Vanguard.

Champion Hill is a sort of Gunfight/Battle Royale hybrid. Eight teams will battle it out across four different arenas to be the last team standing. Champion Hill will feature 2v2 and 3v3 team options in the Vanguard Alpha.

Champion Hill is a multi-team deathmatch tournament. The goal is to reduce the enemy team's lives to zero while maintaining your team’s lives. Everyone starts the game with the same loadout, however, eliminating enemy players and looting drops around the map will grant cash that can be used for upgrades. Players can use cash during Buy Rounds to upgrade their starting weapons and purchase new armaments, equipment, Perks, and Killstreaks.

Champion Hill consists of one large map split up into five sections. The centre section is referred to as the Buy Station Area while the surrounding arenas — Airstrip, Trainyard, Market, and Courtyard — are designated for Combat Rounds.

Eliminated teams are able to watch the remaining action unfold from a platform in the centre Buy Station Area.

Vanguard Alpha Weapons And Operators

In The Vanguard Alpha, players will have access to a limited selection of guns that can be customized with up to ten attachments. Additionally, players can play as Lucas Riggs, Polina Petrova, Wade Jackson, and Arthur Kingsley — four of Call of Duty Vanguard’s Operators.
