The best online co-op games are an easy way to elevate your gaming experience. From the hilarity of everything going awry, to the euphoria of overcoming the odds as a team. With online co-op games we can stay connected and create friendships in places we never expected, but it's all dependent on the games we choose. From shooters to conjoined dogs, we have our selection of the best online co-op games you should be playing.

Best Online Co-op Games: Divinity Original Sin 2

Divinity Original Sin 2 is one of the best online co-op games.

Looking for the ultimate long-term co-op RPG? Then look no further than Divinity Original Sin 2. This expansive RPG will have you fighting, bartering, romancing, and stealing your way through an expansive fantasy world - and you can do it all with friends. Take up various roles and abilities, from a flesh-eating elf to an undead dwarf, to diversify your crew with up to three other friends. Giving players that deep-dive experience with friends easily makes this one of the best online co-op games - which can also be played in split-screen on consoles.

Best Online Co-op Games: Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 is one of the best online co-op games.

Far Cry 6 delivered one of the most visually impressive worlds the series has ever seen, even if the critical reception was incredibly divisive. One thing we can all agree on, however, is how fun shredding through tropical paradise can be with a mate. Whether you are hightailing it through Esperanza on horseback, or wing-suiting across the vast terrain of Yara, there is plenty to explore, and a full campaign to work through together. Then you have the Special Operation which takes you to unique contained missions off of the main island. You'll be shooting up the jungle with friends for hours on end.

Best Online Co-op Games: Sea of Thieves

Sea of Thieves is one of the best online co-op games.

There is barely a person out there that wouldn't like the sound of going on sea-tinged treasure hunt with their own trusty crew of friends. Well, in Sea of Thieves you can do just that, where you take to the open-seas and face the dangers of mythical creatures and even other players. Sea of Thieves is fun, easy to get into, and has some of the best digital sunsets in the industry, allowing you to create your own "that's the greatest pirate I've ever seen" moments.

Best Online Co-op Games: GTA Online

Halo Master Chief Collection is one of the best online co-op games.

In all likelihood, a lot of you rolled your eyes at the inclusion of GTA Online, but considering the success of this game a full eight years since it was released, it just shows how monumental it truly is. With an open world that still outperforms a lot of modern releases, and a ridiculous amount of activities to work through, GTA Online is such a laugh with friends. Whether you are coordinating the perfect bank heist or racing through the most insane race tracks you've ever seen, GTA Online rightly deserves to be among the best online co-op games.

Best Online Co-op Games: It Takes Two

It Takes Two is one of the best online co-op games.

After A Way Out, it was difficult to imagine Hazelight Studios making yet another one of the best online co-op games. Yet three years later, It Takes Two was released completely blowing the expectation of what a co-op adventure game could do. Playing as Cody and/or May, It Takes Two sees a couple on the brink of divorce shrunk into little dolls, where they must traverse their enlarged surroundings together to return to normal. Somehow the game manages to keep its gameplay fresh and entertaining across its lengthy campaign. Yet the best thing about it all is that with Friend's Pass only one of you has to actually own the game to play together. Unsurprisingly, It Takes Two also made it into our best local co-op games.

Best Online Co-op Games: PHOGS!

PHOGS! is one of the best online co-op games.

Looking for something a little lighter? Next up on our best online-co-op games list is PHOGS!, which is tagged as a "double doggo puzzle adventure game". Wondering what that even means? Simple! You play as one of two halves of a conjoined dog, where you must work together with a friend to see your way through a variety of obstacles, whether those are collecting items, traversing increasingly difficult courses, or avoiding enemies. This co-op game will have you screaming at each other as much as laughing till it hurts, and it can be played in local co-op as well as online.

Best Online Co-op Games: Rainbow Six Siege

Rainbow Six Siege is one of the best online co-op games.

A game that was considered dead on arrival, Rainbow Six Siege kept digging with balancing updates, new operators, maps, and more. This eventually led to both a surge in the Rainbow Six community and the quality of its experience, easily elevating it among the best online co-op games. This is a tense and tactical experience, that is a delight to strategize with your squad. In a game where a single bullet will end your life, deliberating over every decision has never been more collaborative.

Best Online Co-op Games: Halo Master Chief Collection

Halo Infinite Master Chief Collection is one of the best online co-op games.

While there is sadly some time before you can dive into the Halo Infinite campaign with friends, the Halo Master Chief Collection has got you covered. WIth Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Reach and Halo 4 included you and a mate can work you through some of the best online co-op games ever made. With each campaign taking up around eight to ten hours roughly, you and a friend could be battling against The Flood for dozens of hours.

Best Online Co-op Games: Warzone

Halo Infinite Master Chief Collection is one of the best online co-op games.

Warzone isn't even two years old, yet it feels like we can barely remember a time without it. This battle royale took the world by storm, and has ingrained itself in gaming culture for better or worse. However, it is undeniably a hilarious fusion of fun, agony, and excitement when fighting through Verdansk with a full squad of friends. "Where we dropping?" will never not be a Warzone phrase, and at this point it seems that the game will never not be one of the best online co-op games.

Best Online Co-op Games: Apex Legends

Apex Legends is one of the best online co-op games.

With the constant debate of where Apex Legends lands in the overall battle royale rankings, first and foremost this is a great team-based shooter. With differing character abilities, and some of the best first-person movement in a game ever, Apex Legends makes it into the best online co-op games list for many of the same reasons as Rainbow Six Siege. It is a blast to play yourself but works fantastically when you merge its gameplay with team coordination. Take it that step further when you start to mould your team, mixing and matching abilities to take the win in style.
