The Battlefield 2042 MacKay specialist is one of just two specialists that isn't available from your first game. You'll need to get up to level 15 before you get access to MacKay, but trust us when we say it is worth it. MacKay's primary abilities come in the form of his Grappling Hook. This tool allows for "unrivalled mobility", allowing you to reach high ledges and cover ground quickly. The Grappling Hook has an unlimited amount of uses and features a short cooldown - around 10 to 15 seconds. Additionally, MacKay features the Nimble perk, which grants him faster movement when either moving or on a zipline.

Since Battlefield 2042 MacKay is a bit of an everyman specialist, we'd recommend going for an assault rifle like the AC-42 or M5A3. For his Gadget, you are really split between the Recoilless M5 or the C5 Explosive, complemented by a frag grenade. If you've levelled up enough the MP28 is a great sidearm for when you need to finish off enemies in the distance.

Battlefield 2042 MacKay is one of the most versatile specialists in the game, as his Grappling Hook works to a variety of functions. The most obvious of course is getting up to high ledges. The Grappling Hook has a decent range, and will also fling you up to the ledge most of the time, so don't worry too much if you aren't grappling onto the exact edge. With many buildings scattered across the maps in 2042, it can be great to use the Grappling Hook as a quick way to get to the high ground and quickly scope out an area. As such you could probably rotate your assault rifle out for something like the DM7 marksman rifle.

The Grappling Hook is also a great way to traverse the map. With its short cooldown, it's brilliant to use to skip along some of the more open plains. This isn't just faster, but also lowers your chances of being picked off by a sniper. In that sense, it is also great as a means to avoid combat. If you are pinned down, the decent range of the Grappling Hook can pull you away from danger, giving you that time to gain back health and compose yourself.

Lastly, one of the most useful applications of the Grappling Hook is getting in close to tanks and hovercrafts. The Grappling Hook will latch onto a tank, but doesn't seem to with the hovercraft. However, by latching onto the ground next to them, you can zip your way right up to an enemy vehicle and stick some C5 on their side before they know what's happened.
