Talks of a Battlefield 2042 battle royale mode has fans of the series eager with anticipation, since Battlefield 2042 just seems like the perfect game for a battle royale. But will Battlefield 2042 actually have a battle royale? Let’s go over all of the leaked and confirmed details relating to Battlefield 2042 battle royale.

Will Battlefield 2042 Have Battle Royale?

Battlefield 2042 will not include a traditional battle royale mode on launch. Instead, Battlefield 2042 will focus its resources on a new innovation called Hazard Zone.

However, the door for a Battlefield 2042 battle royale is not closed. Reliable Battlefield insider, Tom Henderson, claims that DICE is saving a Battlefield 2042 battle royale mode as a backup plan. In the case that Hazard Zone is not well received by fans, battle royale will replace it.

Don’t expect to see Battlefield 2042 battle royale as an option when the game releases on November 19, 2021, but DICE has not ruled out the possibility of adding this popular game mode to Battlefield 2042 at a later date.

Battlefield 2042 Battle Royale: What Is Hazard Zone?

Hazard Zone is a new type of game mode coming to Battlefield 2042. EA and DICE describe Hazard Zone as “a tense experience that combines edge-of-your-seat gameplay with the best of the Battlefield sandbox.”

Rather than a battle royale, Hazard Zone is rumoured to be more along the lines of a mix between Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown.

Despite being an entirely new mode, it seems as though Hazard Zone will use the traditional Battlefield 2042 maps. The All-Out Warfare maps used for game modes like Conquest will carry over into Hazard Zone.

This is a surprise. One would think a stand-alone game mode like Hazard Zone would require its own special map. Perhaps the developers will add unique Hazard Zone maps after launch? Or maybe, EA and DICE are saving a grand-scale map for a post-launch Battlefield 2042 battle royale.

Battlefield 2042 Battle Royale: Hazard Zone Gameplay

Battlefield insiders describe Hazard Zone as a mix between Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown. Escape From Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown share similarities with battle royales, but they also have standout differences.

Both Escape From Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown task players with looting, fighting, and surviving. However, the goal is not to be the last player standing.

In Escape from Tarkov, the goal is to collect as much gear and resources as possible and then escape the raid with your life and newfound loot. Players in Hunt: Showdown must collect bounties and slay boss monsters while avoiding ambushes from enemy players. Just like in battle royale, the penalty for dying in these games is severe. Players get one life and each death results in the loss of all of the loot you have on your person.

Hazard Zone will likely borrow ideas from both of these games. Early leaks suggest that Hazard Zone will task players with missions like collecting intel from data drives and crashed satellites. The Hazard Zone maps will feature various points of interest such as ammo stations and uplinks. Here, Hazard Zone players can call forth a robot dog companion or an ATV to assist in their expedition. The end goal of Hazard Zone will be to extract from the mission with your loot and life intact.

Like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown, AI soldiers are rumoured to be a feature of Battlefield 2042’s Hazard Zone mode. Squads of AI soldiers will patrol the map in some of Battlefield 2042’s vehicles. Additionally, AI soldiers may call in reinforcements that will drop into the map via parachute. Finally, there may be “boss” soldiers that serve as objectives and reward extra loot when defeated. DICE and EA have clearly put a lot of work into Battlefield 2042’s AI bots, so it wouldn't be surprising to see these AI creations heavily featured in Hazard Zone.

Battlefield 2042 Battle Royale: Will Battlefield 2042’s Battle Royale Mode Be Free-To-Play?

Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone — Battlefield 2042’s take on battle royale — will likely be free-to-play.

Henderson, the Battlefield 2042 insider responsible for leaking other reliable Battlefield 2042 intel, has been told that Battlefield 2042 will have a free-to-play element to it. Based on what’s currently known, it makes the most sense that Hazard Zone would be the element in question.

After all, Battlefield 2042 will have to compete with already established giants like Apex Legends and Warzone - both free-to-play games. That does not include the upcoming Halo Infinite, another highly anticipated game with free-to-play multiplayer. With the exceptional success of these free-to-play titles, it's no shock that Battlefield 2042 would want to secure a piece of the pie with its own free-to-play mode.

Hazard Zone will probably be free-to-play when Battlefield 2042 launches on November 19, 2021, but don’t rule out a separate free-to-play Battlefield 2042 battle royale at a later date.

That’s everything we know regarding Battlefield 2042 battle royale and Hazard Zone ahead of Battlefield 2042’s release date on November 19, 2021. Until then, get ready for the Battlefield 2042 beta rumoured for early October.
