Pick rates are an incredibly useful statistic to follow in Apex Legends as they help to highlight which characters are the most popular in Season 20's meta.

While popularity can be a helpful metric, it doesn't directly correlate with which Legend is strongest in the game. For the majority of the time, it's better to choose a character you're comfortable using and who fits your personal play style.

The data below is collected by Apex Legends Status and is based on the 17.8 million players in their API database. It's worth noting that these percentages don't measure the entire player base, but it's a big enough sample size to gather a general impression of overall Legend popularity.

Editor Note: These are the current pick rates as of April 10, 2024.

Most popular Apex Legends characters explained

5. Lifeline

Lifeline has snuck into the top five ahead of Bloodhound with a 7% pick rate and while she isn't the flashiest Legend on the roster, she's unbelievably useful in a drawn-out skirmish.

Offering invaluable heals, consumables, and even weapons for her squad with the Legend Upgrade Care Package, the Combat Medic is an asset to any team she's on.

It's great to see her contending with the typical faces at the top of the popularity rankings and shows the support role is getting more popular in the Outlands.

4. Wraith

The OG of Apex has pushed herself back into the top five with the Season 20 changes, and it feels like she's been given a new lease of life.

With a solid 7% pick rate, Wraith is creeping up on Pathfinder's position and it'll be interesting to see whether she can replace him in the rankings as we head through Season 20.

Wraith's kit remains strong in Season 20, providing room for outplays and great rotational tools for squads. She's undeniably powerful, but there the speedy daredevil remains above her.

3. Pathfinder

With an unbelievably high pick rate of 8.3%, Pathfinder may be sat at number three behind Octane, but he's still immensely popular.

Although the Forward Scout has no abilities that deal damage, his Ultimate is an invaluable rotation tool, and his Tactical provides incredible mobility. These have only been amplified with upgrades that came in Season 20, especially the damage reduction.

Not only that, Pathfinder is just extremely fun to play, and with such a high skill ceiling with his grapple, a huge portion of the community dedicates themselves to being a Forward Scout main.

2. Octane

Octane sits at number two and while Mad Maggie holds the crown for now, it's only a matter of time before he steals the top spot back. Maintaining an impressive 8.5% pick rate in Apex Legends, the king of mobility rarely drops out of the top three, and that's not going to change anytime soon.

His Stim Tactical and Launch Pad Ultimate are not only brilliant for aggressive plays, but they're also useful rotation tools when attempting to reach the final ring.

1. Mad Maggie

Alongside Fuse and Rampart before her, Mad Maggie's dominion over the rankings isn't down to her overwhelming power, but instead a set of challenges that are leading more players to lock her in.

Despite this, the Rebel Warlord was a massive beneficiary to the Legend Upgrades, giving her a flaming Wrecking Ball that's a menace in any skirmish.

With a massive 9.8% pick rate, Mad Maggie's reign at number one may be short-lived, but it's great she's getting her time in the spotlight.
