Many Apex Legends players are confused about one key element of the game - how is damage dealt calculated? Does it include things like shield damage, finishers, or even damage to a knocked player?

Let's go through everything you need to know about damage in Apex Legends.

How does damage work in Apex legends?

Damaging an enemy player can be done through a few means. One is of course shooting, another is damage done via Tactical and Ultimate abilities (like Fuse's Knuckle Cluster, or Valkyrie's Missile Swarm), and finally through ordnance (grenades). Damage is counted and displayed in the top right corner of your play screen, so you can keep track of how close you are to that elusive 2K damage badge.

An important thing to note is that "over damage" is not counted. For example, if an enemy has 10HP, and you shoot them in the head with a Kraber, you will not receive the maximum damage number - only 10 damage will be counted.

Your total damage dealt during the match will be shown on the end screen.

Damage dealt to players that are already knocked was not calculated at the start of Apex Legends' life, so finishing off a downed guy wasn't going to net you a hundred more damage points. However, that has since changed, and now damage to knocked players (or at least the ones you have knocked) does count. So, thirst away!
