Zombies Onslaught Confirmed As Exclusive PS Black Ops Cold War DLC
If you're a Call of Duty fan and struggling to decide which next-gen console you'll be shelling out for, Sony might've just won the battle by confirming a new Zombies Onslaught DLC will be a PlayStation exclusive for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Although all versions of Treyarch's upcoming title will have a main Zombies storyline and push the fan-favourite arc forward, PlayStation owners are in for a treat.
The official PlayStation Blog confirmed Zombies Onslaught will be rolled out first to you lucky PS owners. Zombies Onslaught is described as a "two-person, fast-paced Zombies experience" that will come fresh out the Cold War box for PS4 and PS5 owners. You'll be able to try out all the brain-munching madness if you own a PC, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S, however, you'll have to wait until November 1, 2021. Ouch.
What is Zombies Onslaught?
Zombies Onslaught promises a wholly new CoD experience that melds several of the franchise's most popular modes. Here, players are tasked with taking out wave after wave of zombies with a battle royale twist. Offing these reanimated corpses will power a giant orb, which moves around the map and keeps a certain area safe. Serving a bit like Call of Duty: Warzone's battle royale circle, stepping outside of Zombie Onslaught's barrier means you'll be hit by Dark Aether damage.
Kill enough zombies and you'll also trigger a "surge", that will unleash even more powerful enemies known as "Elites". Players will then be ranked on how many Elites they managed to take down. The blog advises aiming for Elites to earn yourselves a rank of either Gold, Silver, or Bronze. Your ranking will lead to unlocking new maps and rewards with each season.
When is Zombies Onslaught coming out?
Zombies Onslaught is expected to land alongside Black Ops Cold War's full release on November 13. Well, that's if you own a PS4 or PS5. With Zombies Onslaught set to take place on revamped versions of the game's ambitious multiplayer maps, it looks like it could be a big hit. It's looking pretty great considering Black Ops Cold War isn't officially out yet.
If you think about it, it's a very clever marketing move. Sony's lucrative partnership with Activision has seen the PS4 become the hub of CoD action. However, the idea of unleashing Zombies Onslaught next November is also sure to give a boost to the title a year into its life cycle. Just like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has remained relevant with regular updates and seasons of Warzone, Zombies Onslaught can resurrect Cold War in 2021.
One thing's for sure - we're "ravenous" to sink our teeth into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and all its Zombies content.
