The most famous city in horror is welcoming you back with open arms, as the first trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City has finally shuffled into our lives. It seems like only yesterday we said goodbye to Milla Jovovich's Alice with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, but in true Hollywood style, it wasn't long before a reboot was snapping at its heels.

It's no secret that Paul W.S Anderson's previous entries weren't exactly Oscar-worthy outings. Still, 2002's Resident Evil and its five sequels were unadulterated popcorn fodder that pulled in some serious numbers at the box office. While game fans were outraged that fan-favourite Resi legends like Jill, Leon, and Ada were cast aside, Johannes Roberts promises that Welcome to Raccoon City will be a faithful retelling of Capcom's games.

What goes down in the Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon City trailer?

In the first trailer for Welcome to Raccoon City, we waste no time jumping into the action as the S.T.A.R.S. team investigates strange goings-on at the Spencer Mansion. For those familiar with the games, you'll know it isn't long before the team of Chris Redfield (Robbie Ammel) and Jill Valentine (Hannah John-Kamen) expose the truth behind the Umbrella Corporation and are betrayed by their own Albert Wesker (Tom Hopper).

Bringing the first two games to life, Welcome to Raccoon City also follows the events of 1998's Resident Evil 2. Here, Leon S. Kennedy (Avan Jogia) and Claire Redfield (Kaya Scodelario) have to navigate the Raccoon City Police Department when the undead break free from the confines of the Spencer Mansion.

Also along for the ride are the mysterious Ada Wong (Lily Gao), Umbrella overlord William Birkin (Neal McDonough), and the RPD's crazed chief, Brian Irons (Donal Logue). It remains to be seen how Roberts will manage to cram two whole games into a relatively small runtime, but we can't wait to find out.

There are all the usual scenes of zombie decapitations and bullets to the brain, however, the real USP of the trailer is (obviously) zombie dogs. Going back to the very start of the franchise, who wasn't petrified when a zombie dog suddenly launches through a window? Thankfully, it doesn't seem much has changed.

When is Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City out?

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is out on November 24, meaning Sony has been cutting it tight with the first trailer. The social accounts for the movie have been relatively quiet, and apart from the odd update from Roberts, we've been left in the dark with what to expect.

Capcom's zombie shooter has been on an upward trajectory. After the success of Resident Evil Village, we've also had Netflix's Infinite Darkness CGI series, as well as plans for a live-action show focussing on the children of Albert Wesker. Away from all of the above, Welcome to Raccoon City has been the big pull.

Gaming and movie fans alike are poised to see whether Roberts can finally deliver a proper adaptation of the games or whether this is just another panned reboot in the vein of 2019's Hellboy
