Yes, you read that title correctly. There have a few reports from notable sources this past week, about Xbox Game Studios and the Wu-Tang Clan teaming up to develop an action-role playing game.

What Are The Rumours About The Wu-Tang Clan Game?

So far, both Jez Corden of Windows Central and Jeff Grub of Venture Beat have corroborated reports of the new title.

On his Xbox Two Podcast, Corden revealed that he had heard about the game a few months back, along with the Wu-Tang Clan’s involvement. He said the title would be based on Wu-Tang lore - presumably created by the group - and would feature a soundtrack by them, too.

It’s also reportedly going to be based around melee combat, and would accommodate four players at once. Considering the group's obvious love and influence from Kung-Fu films and the game going by Project Shaolin, the combat featuring martial arts is a likelihood.

As stated, Jeff Grub has also backed up these reports on his show, GamesBeat Decides. The developer is supposedly Brass Lion Entertainment, who are a new studio. Grubb also backed up many of Corden’s claims, going on to state it would be a third-person game, but is still in very early stages of development.

On the Brass Lion Entertainment website, it does state they are working on an "unannounced action-RPG video game" and their ‘about us’ section does go on to say they’re "an entertainment studio focused on creating original fictional universes that centre on Black, Brown, and other traditionally marginalized characters, cultures, and stories."

Are There Other Video Games Based On Rappers?

Surprisingly there are a few, and this wouldn’t even be the Wu-Tang Clan’s first game. Before this, they had their own fighting game called Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style, which played similar to Soul Caliber and a had a large selection of rappers to choose from.

The most well known of the rapper video game niche is likely 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand, a third-person shooter revolving around the titular rapper chasing down a diamond-encrusted skull after a concert gone wrong. It was surprisingly decent, all things considered, and was clearly a passion project for 50 Cent.

Some people may also remember the Def Jam series of fighting games, that acted more like the backyard wrestling games. Featuring quite a cast, they had the likes of Snoop Dogg, DMX, Sean Paul, and Busta Rhymes, as well as some Wu-Tang members to boot.

The majority of these games came out in the mid 00s, and since then, rapper video games have dried up somewhat. Maybe the newest Wu-Tang Clan game can spur a resurgence? Either way, we’re interested to see how this project shapes up and if it can become a surprise hit for Xbox, who need some quality titles under their belt.
