The Xbox Gamescom 2021 stream showcased a bunch of upcoming Microsoft games including Dying Light 2 and Forza Horizon 5. If you didn't manage to tune into the show and want to know what exciting things the team at Microsoft have in-store, we've got a complete round-up for you right here of the Xbox Gamescom 2021 show.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Dying Light 2

Kicking things off was Dying Light 2, the sequel to the critically acclaimed zombie RPG. We saw a brand-new trailer that showcased some gameplay and revealed that this game has more parkour moves than ever before. This sequel takes place 20 years since the events of the first game, which means people act much bolder than before.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Microsoft Flight Simulator

Not much was said about the upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator x Top Gun free DLC, but World Update 6 is confirmed to be coming to the game next year. This update will focus around Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and will include 100 of the most unique landmarks in the region. This update will also introduce a 1930s German plane to the game, the Junkers JU-52, featuring detailed scans of the exterior and interior.

The team behind Microsoft Flight Simulator are also working with a company behind the "EVTOL", a passenger drone service that will be added to the game in November.

In perhaps the most interesting Flight Sim news, a competitive multiplayer mode is coming in the next couple of months, featuring air races. Unfortunately, we didn't learn too much more about the mode yet.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Xbox Game Pass

A bunch of new Humble Games are coming to Game Pass:

  • Midnight Fight Express
  • Dodgeball Academia
  • Bushiden
  • Flynn: Son of Crimson
  • Unpacking
  • Signalis
  • Unsighted
  • Chinatown Detective Agency
  • Archvale
  • Next Space Rebels

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Into The Pit

Into The Pit is a brand new first-person shooter roguelike that sees you battling through dungeons against monsters, and is coming to Game Pass on Day One, October 19.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Age of Empires IV

Kicking off the Age of Empires IV news was a video all about the superior siege weapon, the trebuchet. Did you know it can launch a 90kg projectile over 300 metres? The developers want Age of Empires IV to make history interesting while also teaching you things, so any and all Age of Empires fans should be very excited indeed.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3, the 2020 isometric RPG from inXile Entertainment, is getting some brand new DLC called the Cult of the Holy Detonation, focused around some new enemies. They sound pleasant. It's essentially a "Wasteland-style dungeon crawl" with "some of the raddest boss battles", taking place inside Cheyenne Mountain, Colorado. It launches on October 5 and if you have Game Pass, you can pick this up, plus the previous expansion, at a discount.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Sea of Thieves

A brand-new ship set, Mayhem, is coming to Sea of Thieves as part of the next crossover event: Borderlands. Players can earn it in-game during a live event between August 24-September 7 2021.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: State of Decay 2

A new trailer for State of Decay 2: Homecoming was shown off, which brings players back to Trumbull Valley. Players can return to Trumbull Valley with their communities and settle there, which means this DLC is a direct sequel to the Heartland expansion. "Things have changed" in Trumbull Valley though, which means there will be plenty of new content to find and explore in the map. There will be 10 new weapons, six new bases, and 12 new hats and outfits. This all launches on September 1 as a completely free update.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Strayblade

Strayblade is another new game announced, this time from Point Blank Games. A melee-combat action RPG that sees players try to restore balance to a war-torn world. Combat is all about precise reactions and reading enemy animations, with fluid movements and epic boss fights throughout. There's no exact release date yet, but expect it in 2022.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Crusader Kings 3

The latest instalment in the prestigious Crusader Kings franchise is coming to Xbox consoles soon, not as a direct port but as an "adaptation", which means the control scheme has been rebuilt from the ground up for controller players.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Psychonauts 2

The game is out tomorrow, August 25, so the Psychonauts 2 launch trailer was featured during the Xbox showcase. If you're not sure what it's all about, check out the video above.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: The Gunk

Alien exploration game The Gunk has received a brand new 4K trailer and although it doesn't show off too much, we got some gorgeous new looks at the environments we'll be exploring.

Xbox Gamescom Round-up: Forza Horizon 5

Finishing off the stream was a lengthy deep dive into Forza Horizon 5, the upcoming open-world driving game from Playground Games. Before getting into any gameplay shenanigans though, a limited edition Forza Horizon 5 Xbox Series X controller was revealed, which looks utterly stunning with a gold, pink, and blue colour scheme.

Forza Horizon 5 offers the "largest and most vibrant" world yet, with canyons, temples, a snow-capped volcano, and more. On Xbox Series X|S, the ray-tracing capabilities mean the cars will be true-to-life, even down to the most minute details. The cover vehicles for Forza Horizon 5 were revealed too; the Ford Bronco Badlands and the Mercedes-AMG 1. The pair offer two distinctly different driving styles; off-road carnage and smooth asphalt riding.

The gameplay kicked off with the gold Ford Bronco Badlands careening down the aforementioned snow-capped volcano, with the driver racing alongside another driver into a desert environment. The Horizon Festival returns once again, before a bright orange Corvette Stingray is parachuted down to the ground. The goal is for the player to hurtle towards an incoming dust storm as fast as they can, highlighting the beautiful environments and vistas Forza Horizon 5 will offer.

A Porsche 911 Desert Flier took to the stage next, splashing through the jungle along a dirt track. Finally, a Mercedes-AMG 1 shows up and glides along the Baja California coast. You can watch the gameplay above and make of it what you will, but there's no denying that this is one of the best looking racing games.

For everything Forza Horizon 5Dying Light 2, and more Xbox-related goodness, keep your eyes peeled on GGRecon.
