World Of Warships Employee Suspended After Including 'F**k You' In Promo Code
An employee at World of Warships has been suspended after an internal investigation found that they deliberately made a very naughty promo code.
What Was The Naughty Promo Code?
There's a bit of context that we need to really piece this together. As reported by PC Gamer, the code itself was 'W0LAXU5FKUTURY5' - which may seem completely innocuous. However, if you look closer, it's the part that says 'FK U TURY' that we really need to focus on. Turry is a Russian streamer who was reportedly kicked out of a Community Contributors group by Wargaming after being 'overly critical' of the development team.
Turry was being critical, along with several other streamers, in response to some monetisation policies (including loot boxes). Which many would say is completely fair enough. Well, not if you're the person behind making promo codes!
During a stream of the game, the code was dropped in, and English-speaking fans quickly deciphered the code, and realised that it was serving some serious shade in the direction of Turry.
Wargaming conducted an internal investigation after concerns were raised, and eventually admitted that it had been intentional, and conducted by an individual employee. They confirmed that he had been suspended due to the incident.
What's Happened Since The Promo Code Was Discovered?
As you can probably imagine, the team behind the game was pretty apologetic. In fact, they even released a new promo code that gave some free in-game tokens, that read TURRYWEARESORRY.
They also released a statement, saying: "As you know, last Friday a bonus code with offensive content was distributed on our official stream, insulting our player and the popular streamer Turry."
They continued: "This is unacceptable. We conducted an internal audit and found that this situation occurred due to the actions of a certain employee. The employee was suspended from this job and the most stringent measures were applied to him according to the results of the audit,
"On behalf of the entire World of Warships team, we apologize to the players, the viewers of Friday's stream, and, most importantly, we apologize to @Turry. We made an unacceptable statement in your address and are fully aware of our responsibility."
