Why Is Will Smith Being Added To Fortnite?
Here come the "men in black", and if you're ready to do it "big Willy style", Will Smith is proudly declaring "I am legend", as this "bad boy" heads into the "wild wild West" of Fortnite. While Epic Games' battle royale brawler is no stranger to celebrity cameos, we're a little confused at why Will Smith is seemingly coming to the game.
Following in the footsteps of LeBron James to celebrate the release of Space Jam: A New Legacy, Ariana Grande for the Rift Tour, and Idris Elba for The Suicide Squad, it looks like the Oscar-nominated star is ready to swing his pickaxe at the fan favourite title. A fresh batch of leaked skins show Smith in all his glory, but that still doesn't explain why the A-lister is jumping off the battle bus.
Is Will Smith coming to Fortnite?
Noted leaker HYPEX showed off the leaked Will Smith skin, which honours his time as Mike Lowrey in the Bad Boys movies. There are no further details about where/how Will Smith will come to Fortnite - whether it's as a bundle or just a one-off skin in the shop.
A plethora of leaks put Smith alongside other skins for Rick & Morty's Morty Sanchez, singer J Balvin, and Guggimon's friend called Janky. The Will Smith skin will reportedly come with a "Bim Bam Toi" emote, which is a song by French singer Carla, who appeared in 2019's Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
There have been a lot of megastars in Fortnite, with Smith's imminent arrival coming hot off the heels of a bizarre Ryan Reynolds skin (that looks almost nothing like him) being added to celebrate the release of Free Guy. With Free Guy being based in the world of video games, it's easy to see the connection, but what about Mr. Smith?
Why is Will Smith coming to Fortnite?
Herein lies the problem. While James and Elba being used to promote their movies hitting cinemas make a lot of sense, there's no rhyme or reason for why Smith is coming. According to Smith's IMDb, he's currently in pre-production for King Richard - based on the father of Venus and Serena Williams. Elsewhere, there are plans for Bad Boys 4 and Bright 2, however, there's nothing major coming out soon.
Then again, Fortnite recently added Guardians of the Galaxy's Gamora at a random time - especially because we seem to be in the midst of a DC-themed season thanks to Bloodsport, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
We'd like to clarify we love Will Smith, so this isn't a dig at him being in Fortnite. We just don't really get it. Worse yet, his skin doesn't seem to come with a Deadshot, Men in Black, or Fresh Prince variant. Come on, Epic Games. Please do better.
