As a pending merger is on the cards between Call of Duty esports' greatest rivals, OpTic Gaming and Envy (Dallas Empire), the doors appear to be open for a newcomer into the CDL, and it's set to be the United States' capital city that is to be represented. Washington Esports Ventures, home of the Washington Justice Overwatch League side, is heavily expected to snap up the vacant position in the CDL, and a new patent suggests that their name will be 'Washington Demon Cats'.

Washington Esports Ventures have been rumoured to be entering the CDL in the slot that will be left by OpTic Chicago, with NRG having no desire of a third franchise in as many years, encouraging the Call of Duty community to turn into detectives as the silence unsettles the die-hard fans.

With many savvy Sherlocks doing digging into the Washington Esports Ventures, it appears that the company has settled on some new names, as per a range of accepted patents.

New York Subliners' socialite "zmose" and reputable leaker Cory "CCRONEE" Davis have found that Washington Esports Ventures have trademarked the name "Team QNTM", and a range of variations, which could be an overarching hub for their esports teams. The TeamQNTM trademark has also seen the fruition of a Twitter handle of the same name, followed by just one other handle: @DemonCats.

The Demon Cats, forged in August 2021, is a direct reference to D.C., which seems a probable name for a Washington-based esports team.

Washington Demon Cats, or a variation of the Team QNTM, would join the league in place of OpTic Chicago, should the proposed deals come to light. With OpTic joining the Empire banner, Demon Cats would be the second team in two years to benefit from a shift in ownership from the Green Wall.

As the CDL begins to see rosters lock in, the Washington Demon Cats have also reportedly been in talks with players they've eyed to pioneer their opening year - a feat that is looking increasingly difficult as the top-tier teams have captured the best players' signatures.

Anthony "Methodz" Zinni is rumoured to be the main target of DC, after seeing his time at Toronto Ultra come to a close. Reports also suggest that Reece "Vivid" Drost could be their second acquisition, following his release from Dallas Empire, and former London Royal Ravens stand in Paul "PaulEhx" Avila is amongst many other players in discussions to join the established pros.

Methodz, also known as Zini, is becoming increasingly popular in the Call of Duty esports scene, with his vibrant personality, and could be Washington Demon Cats' key to a successful entrance to the CDL, which itself has a chunky buy-in fee.

Rumoured to be around $27million, per LA Thieves' owner Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag, only time will tell if Washington Demon Cats will secure the place, and finish off the 12-team line-up for the CDL 2022 season.
