Washington 'Demon Cats' Back Out Of CDL Venture As Talks With NRG Crumble
Washington Demon Cats, the proposed franchise name of Washington Justice's expected Call of Duty League team, have withdrawn their interest from joining the CDL, according to reports.
With the pending merger between OpTic Chicago and Dallas Empire set to be announced soon, the OpTic brand will be released from the grasp of NRG, who have been in extensive talks with Washington Esports Ventures (owners of Overwatch's Washington Justice) over the vacated CDL spot.
However, according to reports and many cryptic social media posts from the Demon Cats' suggested line-up, Washington Esports Ventures have pulled out of the negotiations, after failing to find suitable terms with NRG.
With their roster expected to be spearheaded by Anthony "Methodz" Zinni and Reece "Vivid" Drost, both players took to Twitter to fire some confusion onto the timeline.
Call of Duty League insider Conor "Unscripted" then reported that the Washington franchise is out of the negotiations, adding that Vivid will be signing for the Florida Mutineers, as a direct replacement for their substitute Christian "Yeez" Faircloth.
With Washington Esports Ventures out of the talks, NRG may be forced to field a team for the upcoming season, unless the league alters their approach to the format and adapt to an unfavourable 11-team league.
Should NRG be pushed to commit to their unwanted CDL spot, it could see the revival of the Chicago Huntsmen brand - an NRG owned team that house OpTic Chicago before Hector "H3CZ" Rodriguez reacquired the OpTic rights.
As for their roster, former Huntsmen SMG player Preston "Prestinni" Sanderson remains team-less, as does the proposed Washington Demon Cats trio of Methodz, Thomas "TJHaly" Haly, and Paul "PaulEhx" Avila.
