Warzone Streamer Called 'Scummy' For Keeping 50% Of Charity Stream Profits
Charity streams on Twitch are becoming much more prevalent as high-profile personalities are using their platforms to raise money for great causes.
Previously, the likes of 100 Thieves' Leslie "Fuslie" Fu raised money for Breast Cancer Research, even gifting Noah "NoahJ456" $5,000 for clutching a 1v5 on VALORANT. Ben "DrLupo" Lupo raised a colossal $2.3million for his annual St. Judes Children's Research Hospital charity stream back in December 2020, verifying the method as one that can be hugely impactful.
However, a recent charity stream for Breast Cancer Research, held by Danyell "TheDanDangler" Lanza, received a hefty pot of criticism after openly pocketing 50% of the donations. The Call of Duty: Warzone streamer has since been labelled "scummy" by fellow streamers, whilst many others leapt to her defence, opening a moral can of worms.
FaZe Clan's "TheBoiSantana" was the first to criticise TheDanDangler, claiming he was disgusted to see that the streamer was only donating a percentage of her stream to charity, using an illness to get more people to donate to her. The streamer also criticised TheDanDangler for her "7 Gifted Subs" milestone - drawing the gifter with funny breasts on her wall - in which he found distasteful on a breast cancer research charity stream.
However, Danyell was quick to point out that she had full transparency on her stream, with a message on her screen saying: "50% of earnings goes to Breast Cancer Research", alongside the same message being repeated in the stream title, donations page, and donation panel.
Former 100 Thieves streamer Erind "Froste" Puke also backed TheDanDangler, following some research into her stream. Originally, the content creator took to Twitter to say: "Unless she put it in the title, donation panel, and donation page this is 100% scummy. Just mentioning it on stream every once in a while isn't enough."
But after finding out the extent of her transparency, Froste soon supported her decision, saying "If she disclosed it in her title, on-screen, and her donation panel like people are saying she did then there's no problem at all. Everyone who donated was aware of where the money was going and was okay with donating it."
TheDanDangler, who was chosen as one of five captains in the inaugural World Series of Warzone event alongside the likes of Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag, has continued to stand by her stance and will continue to donate a portion of her earnings to good causes.
