Call of Duty: Warzone Season 5 is here, and as Activision bid to reclaim their vacated player base, a range of brand-new features have been added to spice up Verdansk.

In a usual style, the new season brings with it an overpowered weapon, slight changes to the landscape of Verdansk '84, and some sleek, yet mysterious, operators to combat Roze.

As players have begun to level up the demonic Warzone Assualt Rifle, the EM2, a range of strange additions to the map have surfaced.

Multiple Warzone Red Crates have been erected across Verdansk 84, and whilst they seem to serve no purpose, they could be a part of a grander scheme.

Warzone Red Crates - What are they?

The Red Crates in Warzone are currently spread across three locations: The centre of the Stadium, East of Downtown nearby the bridge to the Hospital, and West of the Airport towards the two-trailer Buy Station location.

The crates form the same layout in each of the locations, and cannot be opened. The large containers also create a deafening noise thanks to a generator pumping electricity throughout them.

The first theory as to why they have been added is as a placeholder for the 'Mobile Broadcast Stations' that were detailed in the Season 5 Roadmap. However, the stations have since been added too, albeit in different locations to the crates.

It now appears that the Warzone Red Crates could be a part of something bigger...

Warzone Red Crates Hint At In-Game Event

Just as the developers planned with the Black Ops Cold War reveal, Activision's trio of developers could be set to announce Call of Duty: Vanguard through Warzone and previous instalments of the franchise.

According to multiple leaks, an in-game event is scheduled to happen in Season 5, in which the Red Crates could become activated.

As to the nature of the Easter Egg / in-game event, it is yet to be known how it will play out. However, it's likely to end with a Call of Duty: Vanguard announcement, including a trailer.

The in-game event could also happen within a week of Season 5's commencement, with many leakers claiming a reveal will occur on August 19 - coincidentally the same day as the Call of Duty World Championships. We'll just have to wait for the Warzone patch notes.
