Warzone Devs Have Removed Warzone - And Fans Are Bamboozled
A large majority of players have ditched Warzone in favour of the likes of Apex Legends and Splitgate, after hackers and a stale meta drove players into delirium. Now, it appears that the developers have also had enough of their own game, and removed Warzone from Warzone...
Confused? Same.
The Call of Duty developers attempted to spice up life on Verdansk amid the map's impending doom, with their weekly playlist adding the likes of Rebirth Island and Plunder Quads mode and the increasingly popular Payload.
However, Raven Software has removed the core battle royale game mode from Warzone, including Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads. With the actual Warzone design being ripped from the game for a week, it's safe to say that fans are left scratching their heads.
Instead, the Buy Backs playlist will be reinstated, adding carnage to the usual gameplay, which isn't to everyone's liking.
Players have since questioned the decision to remove the standard BR, after not enjoyed the fast-paced higher-populated Buy Back mode.
One Twitter user said, "Had a couple of horrible hours playing Buy Back. you need to add back normal battle royale. Not everyone is a sweaty, bunny hopping, sliding v****n. Some of us just like to have a few casual games after work. Buy Back ain't it."
Other players have looked towards Rebirth Island for a taste of the battle royale experience, rather than follow their favourite content creators over to Apex Legends. However, people are still furious that the core game has been removed.
Within the Patch Notes, Raven Software did admit that this was a pre-meditated trial, and the mode will return with the same playlist update next week.
But, in the meantime, it looks like Rebirth Island or a frantic Buy Back mode is the only way to play - not perfect for those casual gamers that they tailor much of their content towards.
As Warzone prepares for a brand-new WWII themed map, which is also rumoured to contain more squads on a bigger landscape, it's possible that this trial could be Raven Software's way of saying that Warzone is about to get more competitive and fast-paced. Unless you're a ghillie in the mist with a solid Kar98k shot, the up-close SMG fights are going to be much more frequent.
This could also be the developers' way of pushing players towards the new SMGs that have been added. Both the TEC-9 and OTs have made for horrendous floor loot over the previous weeks, although a fully-kitted out variant of the TEC-9 does offer a good TTK rate. As always with new weapons, blueprints are a quick way of unlocking the better attachments, and with an SMG-heavy meta, players could be tempted to head to the store.
Whether it is clever marketing from Raven Software, or a way of testing the waters for future endeavours, the general feedback isn't great, and they'll surely be looking to get the core Warzone mode back at the next opportunity.
