The gloves are off, as the bizarre announcement of a Warner Bros. fighting game has started gathering steam. While Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is known for publishing the likes of the Injustice games, the latest title apparently won't be from Mortal Kombat's NetherRealm.

With the ongoing success of Nintendo's Smash Bros. series, it seems everyone wants a slice of the brawler pie. Unfortunately, Nickelodeon All-Stars Brawl has recently shown how not to do it. Can a Warner Bros. fighting game and a whole multiverse of characters really raise the bar?

What Does The Warner Bros Fighting Game Leak Reveal?

The question on everyone's lips is who will be stepping into the ring this time around. With a name like Multiversus, you can expect some weird and wonderful additions, with the developers apparently not skimping on the wacky.

An image was posted by professional Smash player hungrybox, who shared a potential lineup of characters. The Tweet remains, but with the media being removed, it suggests this could be the real deal. If you're ready, an apparent Multiversus roster includes:

  • Steven Universe
  • Batman
  • Harley Quinn
  • Adventure Time's Finn
  • Adventure Time's Jake
  • Scooby-Doo's Shaggy
  • Superman
  • Wonder Woman
  • The Lord of the Rings' Gandalf
  • Rick and Morty's Rick Sanchez
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Tom and Jerry

There's also a blank space for an unknown original character. We hope this isn't the end of the road for the Warner Bros. fighting game. Notably, there's a lack of female characters, with both Harley Quinn and Wonder Woman already appearing in the Injustice games.

What's Going On With The Warner Bros Fighting Game?

The fact Warner Bros. has taken down the original screenshot and a subsequent video where hungrybox discussed the squad, it definitely sounds like the Multiversus roster is real. There are rumours of it being a classic platformer with a tag team mechanic. Most think Multiversus will be free-to-play, allow you to build a team, and will expand with regular updates.

Noted leaker Nibellion claims the first DLC character will be LeBron James (to cash in on the success of Space Jam). Other rumoured additions include everyone from Fred Flintstone to Harry Potter.

Weirdly, it sounds like exactly the kind of thing NetherRealm would be working on. In the deep lore of the Mortal Kombat franchise, fans have become obsessed with Shaggy appearing in-game. It's a joke that franchise overseer Ed Boon has mentioned, while WB even made Shaggy canon in the series. Warner Bros. is yet to comment on the plethora of Multiversus leaks, however, it looks like this kooky crossover could be closer than we first thought.
