Verox Relishing The Opportunity To 'Give Back' In XL Community Cup
Excel Esports' Fortnite team has gone from strength to strength in 2021, with the signing of Jacob "verox" Gilbert complimenting the success of Jaden "Wolfiez" Ashman. Having both won respective tournaments in the calendar year, Verox has now eyed the XL Community Cup as a way of using his growing platform to "give back" to people in need, as the organisation partners with SpecialEffect.
Ahead of the XL Community Cup, which will see a range of UK-based Fortnite stars team with influencers and celebrities to raise money for SpecialEffect, Verox revealed that he is looking forward to having fun and supporting such a great cause.
Speaking exclusively to GGRecon, the young Brit spoke about his desire to not only win the event, but to raise as much money as possible for a charity alongside some exciting personalities such as TikTok sensation Ollie Ball and his teammate "Turntdaisy".
"It's very important for all pros, and influencers, to use their large platforms to give back and help certain people and certain causes in the community," began Verox.
"They [Special Effect] help with the physically challenged and disabled gamers, which is great. It's a good way for them to do something fun, and helping the community in any way is always good, especially those who need it."
Whilst the goal is to raise as much money as possible, Verox's desire to win has not wavered. "We've just come from the two recent events with the FNCs, and we've had a lot of practice recently," he said, adding, "we'll try and perform the best we can."
The professional will be joined by Twitch streamer "Turntdaisy" who can often be found slaying her way through FPS titles like Fortnite and VALORANT, making them one of the more fearsome duos in the event - and it's not the first time the two have teamed together.
"We have played before in the Amar Cup - we did alright but not too great, but we'll see. We have a good chance of winning."
Alongside the Excel dynamic duo of Verox and Wolfiez, personalities such as Ollie Ball and English Rugby Union star Luke Cowan-Dickie will feature across the broadcast, trading their usual tools for a Pump Shotgun.
"It'll be interesting to see Ollie Ball," began Verox. "I'm not sure if he's played much Fortnite, well, everyone has back in the day, but that will be good to watch, for sure."
The XL Community Cup will see the duos compete across a one-day event, where skill may be replaced with entertainment. Taking place on November 28, make no mistake when you see the Floss break out on stream, it's all for a great cause. You can see the stream here.
