It's a staple of the Call of Duty franchise at this stage to give the fans what they really want, by delivering some classic maps to play on. The newest addition to this trend is the arrival of Shipment, the tiny hectic map that made its name during Modern Warfare. It will be making its way back to us with a new WWII lick of paint for the Call of Duty: Vanguard free weekend.

Maybe it's a little indicative of a game series that lives through its past year after year with little more than nostalgia to keep people attached - but it keeps the lights on, so there's no reason for the game's many dev teams to stop.

The idea that fans are going to be able to play Shipment completely for free, even if they haven't bought the game yet, it's finally a bit of good news for the faltering Vanguard. This should go some way to alleviate all those problems players are complaining about.

Vanguard Free Weekend Revealed For Shipment Launch

If you've been waiting for a moment before getting your hands on Vanguard, then you're in luck - a new free weekend for the game's multiplayer mode will soon be going live to commemorate the release of the new remastered map.

Just as Shipment is set to join the Vanguard map pool today (November 17), a free weekend will be launching shortly after to make sure that everyone gets to take the new (old) map a spin. It'll be available on both console and PC via Battle.net, so everyone can get involved. The free weekend won't include the Campaign or Zombies modes, but given our thoughts on Vanguard's campaign and the weak start for Zombies, it might be better that way.

Vanguard's new free weekend to commemorate the arrival of Shipment will begin tomorrow on November 18, and will come to a close on November 22. If you've been waiting to check out the game and have been unprepared to shell out £55 for the game (don't worry, we feel you) then jump to it and take the game for a test drive.

The launch of a free weekend so close to the game's launch is a surprise, but certainly a welcome one. We'll see you on Shipment - but not for very long, because we're confident we'll be killed very quickly.
