VALORANT's Agent Deadeye Will Be A Mechanical Sentinel
The role of a sentinel in VALORANT is the one aspect of a team composition that is evolving the quickest. Killjoy, Cypher, and Sage currently make up the list of dedicated sentinels, although Viper can also be adapted on certain maps to fit the role, and as the game develops, more and more success is being found by correctly using these agents to shut down areas of the map - quite literally in Killjoy's case.
The impact of a sentinel was outlined in the latest VALORANT Champions Tour Masters, as Gambit's Ayaz "nAts" Akhmetshin put on a terrific display in Berlin to thwart many of the greatest Jett mains in the world, showing time after time that a sentinel-heavy composition can be effective enough to be crowned international champions.
Now, the sentinel agent pool is set for a shakeup, as yet another oppressive character is on the way: Deadeye.
Deadeye was first teased back in June, alongside the recently arrived map, Fracture. The seemingly suave James Bond-esque villain was equipped with a waistcoat and tie, slicked-back hair, and a humongous rifle, although that's pretty much all we knew about him.
However, Riot Games has now dropped a little bit more recon on the marksman, confirming that he will be a Sentinel, despite conspiracies that he will be a direct competitor with Jett in the duelist section.
Taking to a blog post, Riot Games' Character Producer, John Goscicki, claimed that Deadeye will be "A Sentinel that focuses on mechanical outplays, with an additional focus of gunplay into the mix for an extra flourish."
Despite that being the only real detail in the post, the Producer also inferred that the agent won't have a flash as part of his kit, with KAY/O already rounding off a balanced number of heroes with flashes.
As for Deadeye's background, whilst many suspected the sleek executioner to be matched with a prim and proper English accent like 007, he's actually likely to prefer his martini neither shaken, nor stirred, but replaced with a fine Bourgogne wine. The hunky hitman is expected to be French, with a taste for "Magnifique" coffee.
Deadeye is expected to land on November 2, as per the Act 2 battlepass which will conclude the day prior. Alongside his arrival, many other agents are being tampered with to further disturb the balance, such as Yoru.
