VALORANT Pro Player ScreaM Thinks The Operator Is 'Broken'
Professional player Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom has raised the issue about the strength of VALORANT’s sniper rifle, the Operator. The star player of Team Liquid’s European roster addressed specifically the agility of the weapon on his Twitter account, stating that he felt holding an angle against it proved hard in most circumstances.
Professional players and streamers around the scene have been criticising the Operator for a while now. Just today, Team Liquid streamer and pro Lucas "Mendo" Håkansson shared a similar point to ScreaM’s, stating that specifically in ranked queue situations without the required teamwork, stacking multiple Operators on defence was a too safe strategy to consistently take rounds.
In a tweet, he said: “The biggest thing isn't how many rounds you can win with OPs either, it's not even how braindead easy it is to win those rounds. It's how absolutely f*cking boring it is to play against double or triple OP's every single ranked game no matter what.”
Other pro players have pointed out that the Operator especially when used by VALORANT agent Jett was a major problem. With her ability Tailwind, it was possible to take a duel with the Operator and deny the enemy the ability to trade from the same angle with a quick dash out of sight.
A counter-argument was presented by G2 Esports’ captain Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas Colocho, who showed a way to counter the sniper rifle using coordinated utility, effectively taking the Operator player off their position and in less favourable sightlines.
Perhaps fairly, we have to differentiate between the strength of the Operator in real competition in which teams have set plays to counter-strategise against the weapon while it’s less possible to play around it in solo queue situations and without the right agents to play around it.
