100 Thieves Asuna Breaks Kill Record With Incredible Performance In VALORANT Champions Tour
The road to Berlin kicked off with fireworks, as the first places at the world championships were also on the table. With just three spots for North America in the second international event of VALORANT's short history, all eyes were on the likes of 100 Thieves and Gen.G, to see who could cause an upset to Stage 2 victors Sentinels and Version1.
The first round of qualifying saw Stage 2 world-beaters Version1 get pitched against a hungry resurgent 100 Thieves side, whose star-studded roster was out for revenge.
V1 shown at the Reykjavík that their unorthodox team-heavy playstyle was difficult to deal with, earning them a worthy prestige in the scene, although 100 Thieves' snappy individuals lay in their way to appear on the main stage again.
Up stepped Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk, who set an insane record in one of the best individual performances that the VALORANT Champions Tour has seen so far.
Asuna Breaks VCT Kill Record Against Version1
The two heavyweights of NA VALORANT locked horns in the feature match of the day, as they looked to kickstart their conquest.
Icebox played host to the first game, and with the scores tied 12-12, a further 12 rounds of overtime being needed to separate the two.
Taking the tie 19-17, 100 Thieves advanced to the next round, dumbing Version1 to the lower bracket, with Asuna taking most of the plaudits.
His individual score saw Asuna post up a colossal 48 kills on the map, 14 more than any other player. Just two shy from half a century, Asuna's slaying broke the record for the most kills in a single game in competitive VALORANT.
100 Thieves Upset Version1 In VCT Stage 3 Challengers 1
100 Thieves' upset came as the result of the weekend, as the likes of Sentinels and Team Envy also succeeded in moving through the upper bracket.
Version1 fell short again in the lower bracket versus Kansas City Pioneers, taking a surprise exit from the first Challengers round. The Cinderella side, Rise, also failed to keep up their momentum, falling to XSET and Gen.G respectively.
Reigning champion, Sentinels, were taken the distance by Gen.G, who did one better than the entire Stage 2 masters teams by at least taking a map of the dominant demons.
The Grand Final will kick off on July 11, where the top 3 teams will advance to the Challengers playoffs for a place in Berlin.
