UK Retailers Won't Be Restocking The PS5 'Until 2021'
If you haven’t yet managed to get your hands on a PS5, then you’d better hope you’ve been a good boy/girl this year and Santa’s bringing you one in his sack, because UK retailers will not be restocking the highly-sought after next gen console until 2021.
In a heart-breaking bit of news that is bound to upset many people, Argos and Smyths gave UK consumers an update regarding PS5 stock, and it’s not good news.
They both took to their official websites to confirm the sorry state of affairs. Argos wrote: “We will not have any further stock for the rest of 2020,” while Smyths wrote that more stock is “expected” in 2021.
Sony released a statement shortly after the PS5 sold out pretty much worldwide, saying: “We want to thank gamers everywhere for making the PS5 launch our biggest console launch ever. Demand for PS5 is unprecedented, so we wanted to confirm that more PS5 inventory will be coming to retailers before the end of the year – please stay in touch with your local retailers.”
So it seems that some stock might slip through, but it’s not looking good if you’re based in the UK.
You can always pay resale prices if you’re absolutely desperate to get your hands on one as soon as possible, but don’t be like the one person who reportedly paid £7910. As reported by The Loadout, that’s 1,485% more than the RRP. Ouch.
At the end of the day, it’s definitely worth waiting until the new year if you haven’t got one yet. With many games set to release on the PS5 in 2021, there’s a lot more fun to be had. Don’t part with your hard-earned cash to buy an overpriced resell.
