Ubisoft Teases Starfield-Inspired Sci-Fi Game
An Ubisoft studio based in Stockholm is working on a new intellectual property, which is set to be a sci-fi action game.
What Is The New Ubisoft Game?
Ubisoft Stockholm was originally founded in 2017 to help on the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora video game, but now they are working on their own unannounced franchise. The news of their title comes from some job listings at the studio, which asks for 33 different roles to be filled.
Many of them end with the line, "get in touch and join us on our journey to the moon." It could be a way of emphasising how big and grand the project is, or could be a direct reference to a location in the game or its main focus - much like Capcom’s upcoming Pragmata.
What Listings Are There For The Game?
All the listings are for the 'New Game IP' project, and some of the roles do highlight a little more information about the new title. For example the 'Lead Game Designer - Action/Combat' role asks for "significant experience as a game designer on AAA action games." This does seem to suggest the game will be a big budget experience with a focus on the combat.
There is a listing for an animation role that says the position will be a vital "part of creating a new animation system and legacy." Essentially, all the animations systems will developed from scratch for this project, and none of the prior Ubisoft games will be used as a framework.
Other listings ask for systems programmers, specialising in narrative systems and gameplay programmers with interest in "character, camera, & control systems." The first may potentially hint at the game having a story focus or a narrative that can be changed through in-game choices.
We have no information on when the game is set to release or the platforms it will be available on, but it’s likely to be a new-gen exclusive experience considering it’s still early in development. The only other sci-fi games that Ubisoft appear to be working on are the Avatar game and Beyond Good and Evil 2, which, after its showing a few years ago, hasn’t seen many updates.
