A Brand-New Splinter Cell Game 'To Be Announced Next Year'
Ubisoft is reportedly pushing forward on a brand-new Splinter Cell game, which would be the first main game in 10 years.
According to VideoGamesChronicle, they spoke to development sources, who confirmed that a new Splinter Cell has been 'put into production'. The reason behind this is apparently to 'win back fans' who have been less than impressed by recent efforts from Ubisoft in the form of mobile and VR versions of the franchise.
The source continued to say that the game is in 'early phases' of production, but 'could be announced next year'. Which, let's be honest, is possibly the best news to come out of this whole thing.
Obviously, there are a lot of factors that could mean a later publishing date, but everything about this story from VGC sounds incredible.
What Is Splinter Cell?
If you're not familiar with the games, Splinter Cell was endorsed by American Author Tom Clancy himself.
Clancy, who died in 2013, wrote many best-selling books that were famous for following incredibly detailed storylines regarding espionage and military-science, set during and after the Cold War. His most famous works were the Jack Ryan novels.
What Other Splinter Cell Games Are There?
The first Splinter Cell came out in 2002. Altogether, there have been seven games. In 2020 at a Facebook Connect event, a VR version of the series was announced. They confirmed that it would be coming exclusively to the Oculus VR platform, along with an Assassin's Creed game.
