Two jobs, one man. Chinese esports organisation FunPlus Phoenix has hired Petar “Peca” Markovic as their General Manager for both VALORANT and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO).

The former coach is tasked to find a new CS:GO roster for FPX and maintain the recently picked up VALORANT team which is competing in Europe and considered one of the best teams in the region. In a Twitter reply, he stated that the CS:GO roster would be announced “soon”.

FPX had entered CS:GO in March 2020 when they aimed to pick up Heroic’s roster for the start of B Site Inc’s Flashpoint league. The deal ultimately fell through because of a pending acquisition by Patrick "es3tag" Hansen by Astralis, leaving the Danish squad without the ability to compete while already residing in North America for the tournament.

FunPlus Phoenix had made a name for themselves as the winning team of the League of Legends 2019 World Championship fielding a mix of Chinese and South Korean players, defeating European esports organisation G2 Esports in the finals. The organisation has been fanning out to the global esports markets, fielding teams in various esports, and regions signaling the ultimate goal to be among the best teams in whatever ecosystem they enter.
