Twitch's New Mid-Stream Ads Have Not Gone Down Well

Streaming is often described as the best-uninterrupted gaming viewership content. Being able to spend countless hours streaming and connecting with fans is something that the number one streaming platform, Twitch, has prided itself on, allowing content creators around the globe the opportunity to do just that.

However, Twitch has now implemented mid-stream adverts that disconnect the streamer from their chat, and it hasn't gone down well at all.

Mid-stream ads have actually always been available, however, they have been controlled by players, often used when they want to get a snack or a cup of coffee. With Twitch's new system, the platform will control the adverts, which could potentially cut players' streams off as they're defeating the boss of a game, in the final of a tournament, or even halfway through a conversation with the viewers.

As can be expected, users took to social media to express their frustration towards the feature, outlining that is a cash making scheme from Twitch that goes against the core values of the streaming platform.

Streamer "Otzdarva" showed a perfect example of the ads ruining content, as he went face to face with the Dark Souls 2 enemies, ducking and diving as he tried to slay the goliath foe. Just seconds before plunging his sword through the enemy and achieving victory, his stream was interrupted by an absurd doughnut and fried chicken advert.

More outrage poured out from streamers such as DominatorSmilin, whose clip has gone viral. Showcasing his viewing of the Harry Potter Legacy trailer, Twitch placed an Amazon Prime advert in the middle of his review.

Some of the defence arguments behind Twitch's adds were to compare it to YouTube, who run ads over streams. However, this is something that both streamers and viewers are used to on YouTube, and often excuse because they know that they are coming, whereas Twitch users were not prewarned about this, which led to content being ruined.

It is not clear, as of yet, whether Twitch will continue mid-stream adverts, however, it's clear to see that the community wants them gone.
