2020 has been a tough year for everyone all around the world. Still, playing games has been one of the most common things that almost everyone did to pass their time during the quarantine, and this helped a lot of game developers in generating a massive amount of revenue. Mobile devices have been the most popular platform for most people because of the ease of use and mobility. 

As a result, PUBG Mobile, combined with the Chinese localisation of the title, Game For Peace, became the number one revenue-generator globally across the App Store and Google Play in 2020. Here's the top five mobile games generating the highest revenue in 2020:

Total Revenue Generated - $2.6 billion

PUBG Mobile is an action-shooter battle royale game developed by Tencent. The game features a variety of maps and modes, including a classic 100 player mode in which they fight with each other to survive and to get the infamous ‘Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.’ Apart from that, the attractive in-game items such as the gun skins and a seasonal battle pass make the players engaged in the game. These skins and in-game can be acquired for free as well and in-game microtransactions that play a significant role in the revenue generation for the developers.

Total Revenue Generated - $2.5 billion

Honor of Kings is a 5v5 MOBA mobile game, with a bunch of exciting modes including 5V5 King Canyon, 5V5 Abyss battle, as well as 3V3, 1V1, and more. The game has consistently made its presence in the list of highest-grossing mobile games each month. After PUBG Mobile, this game has the most revenue generated by mobile games in 2020, accumulating the majority of it from China itself.

Total Revenue Generated - $1.2 billion

Pokémon Go is an augmented reality mobile game in which you need to collect fanciful creatures and make them fight against each other. Players take on the role of a young Pokémon trainer and collect various Pokémons in real locations by walking, biking, driving, and so on. 2020 has been the best year for Pokémon Go as it generated the highest revenue in a single year ever since its launch.

Total Revenue Generated - $1.1 billion

Coin Master is a casual single-player game with a simple objective of building up villages by winning coins and upgrading items. The players can collect these coins by spinning daily and can also use them to attack other villages. The number of free spin attempts is limited to seven per hour, but additional attempts and items can be purchased in chests. Coin Master had grown rapidly since the beginning of 2019, with its best month ever coming in November 2020, when it picked up close to $118 million.

Roblox is a Massively Multiplayer Online game (MMO) having a cross-platform capability in allowing users to program games and play games created by other users. The mini-games in Roblox and microtransactions available in the game helped it in becoming one of the top mobile games of 2020 based on the revenue generated.
