The Witcher Season 2 Reveals Horrifying New Monster
While Netflix is known for the likes of Stranger Things, Tiger King, and Squid Game, not everything is based on a brand-new IP. Sitting in the upper echelon of the streaming giant's hit shows is The Witcher. As we gear up for The Witcher Season 2, the fantasy epic has revealed a horrifying new monster that Geralt of Rivia will have to tackle.
Based on CD Projekt Red's game series of the same name, Lauren Hissrich's bold reimaging landed Henry "Superman" Cavill as its lead. When Season 1 debuted in 2019, The Witcher was viewed by 76 million and became Netflix's most-watched series until Bridgerton dethroned it. Can Season 2 reclaim its throne?
What Is The Witcher Season 2's New Monster?
The Witcher hopes to cast a spell on us once again in December, and with this in mind, Netflix is going on the marketing assault with trailers and teasers. The latest look shows off the spider-centipede hybrid called the Myriapod.
In the clip, Geralt is pushed to his limits as he tries to dodge this eight-legged beast. We get to see a bit more of his magical abilities, with Geralt forming a Doctor Strange-inspired shield and using his sword covered in runes.
In the games, there's a mention of a souped-up Myriapod known as Viy of Maribor. It doesn't look like this is that one, so could the series be building up to an epic boss battle with Viy of Maribor after Geralt has destroyed a few of its minions?
What Else Do We Know About The Witcher Season 2?
The reveal of the Myriapod comes after Hissrich promised there would be more monster battles in Season 2. While The Witcher's debut was an epic outing that did plenty of world-building, critics said they wanted to see more of the Continent and the monsters that lurk within its murky depths.
At least we know this isn't the end of the road for The Witcher. When Season 2's first trailer dropped, there was a hyped reveal that Season 3 was already on the way. Added to this, Cavill has said he's all in on possible plans for a seven-season arc. If this is the case, here's hoping we'll get to see Geralt battle Dettlaff, the Archgriffin, and Eredin, before the final credits roll.
