The Witcher Promises A Lot More Monster Battles In Season 2
Geralt of Rivia is going to have to get his legendary combat skills at the ready because The Witcher season two will see the golden-eyed warrior battling more monsters than in the previous season.
Showrunner Lauren Hissrich explained that season two of the popular Netflix show will see Geralt up against more monsters than previously. This is, in part, due to the series trying to appeal to fans of The Witcher video game franchise and, of course, the books that both the games and TV series is based upon. With the critical acclaim of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, it's no wonder the television series might be looking to the game franchise for inspiration.
In an interview with Sci-Fi and Fantasy magazine (via Redanian Intelligence), Hissrich went into great detail about what The Witcher fans can expect to see in the upcoming series.
Which Monsters Will Be Included In Season Two Of The Witcher?
Series showrunner Hissrich did not specify if any monsters from The Witcher games will be included in the upcoming season of the TV series, which is largely based Andrzej Sapkowski's novel Blood of Elves. However, she did say: "Blood of Elves lacks monsters. There’s just not very many. But we know from the games that people really like to see Geralt battling monsters, so we continued adding more monsters to Season 2."
While the practical effects of the show were highly praised, such as the design of the Striga, many fans felt a bit let down by some of the monsters who were built with CGI, like the golden dragon. Yet, given the criticism from viewers and the show's increasing popularity, here's hoping that Netflix have set aside a fair bit of money into improving the show's visual effects.
How Will The Witcher's Second Season Be Different?
Hissrich went on to describe how The Witcher season 2 will be very different compared to the previous series. Yet, she asked her writers to reread the book as well as examine what are the most popular elements of both the books and the games. Hissrich said that though the second series might follow a more linear narrative, the team wanted to keep Geralt's dry sense of humour.
It doesn't look like Henry Cavill is going anywhere either, as the actor has reportedly signed on for five more seasons of the fantasy series, despite worries that a third season might not even happen. However, all those fears were dashed away when Netflix premiered a brief teaser trailer for season three before the second series was out.
The Witcher season 2 is set for release via Netflix on December 17, 2021.
