The Skyrim Speedrunning Record Has Just Been Smashed
Get your running shoes on because someone has just trounced the Skyrim speedrunning record. A whole decade after we first unbound ourselves from Helgen, the fan-favourite addition to the lore of The Elder Scrolls is still everywhere.
As we sit and wait patiently for the eventual release of The Elder Scrolls 6, Skyrim is celebrating 10 years in our lives. What better way to honour the occasion than someone trouncing the game's speedrunning record?
Skyrim Speedrunning Record: Who Broke It?
This impressive feat was pulled off by popular Skyrim speedrunner, nuclear. It was 10 months ago that nuclear previously set the record, and now, they're back to shave a full two minutes off their own time. This means you can officially beat the main Skyrim quest in just 72 minutes.
There are some obvious rules on what counts here, with guidelines meaning you can't go out of bounds, clip through walls, duplicate items, or use any of the (many) Skyrim glitches. Impressively, nuclear has a near-perfect knowledge of the Tamriel map.
Obviously, you can glitch through Skyrim with ease, meaning the current main quest record is under 30 minutes (with loads). Adding to nuclear's accolades, they have the record in both the novice and legendary category.
Skyrim Speedrunning: Can It Be Beaten?
Skyrim has had a renewed interest thanks to the release of the Anniversary Edition that added over 500 pieces of Creation Club content AND fishing. Seeing Skyrim bested in just over an hour is even more impressive than someone rattling through Pokemon BDSP in 33 minutes, mainly because Skyrim is a much bigger game.
Nuclear has become the de facto Skyrim superstar. Not only holding the record, but going on to beat your own title is some serious fan service.
Whether nuclear will try and beat their latest time remains to be seen, but with so much hype still swirling Skyrim, we'd bet it isn't long before someone else tries to dethrone them as the Dragonborn.
Only today (November 30) speedrun.com shows that TODDs_Telemedien has challenged nuclear and scored an impressive 73 minutes - presumably trying to follow in nuclear's footsteps. Well, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
