As far as promotional games go, there's no franchise better accustomed to the world of video games than The Matrix.

The Path of Neo is a PS2 classic despite its critical failures, and frankly, the mythos of the films is absolutely perfect for an adaptation into a technical and fictional world that's powered by machines.

And now, a new Matrix gaming experience is on the way - and it's shrouded in mystery.

What Is The Matrix Awakens?

The Matrix Awakens, a new "Unreal Engine 5 Experience" is on its way to gamers in a bid to promote the upcoming movie The Matrix: Resurrections

The tech demo promises "a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with UE5", and it looks like it could be much more than just a promotional tool for the upcoming film.

It's incredibly mysterious, too, with the trailer only offering a glimpse at an incredibly realistically-rendered Keanu Reeves as Neo, asking "how do we know what is real?". Blimey.

But, the strange experience is only for a select few, it would seem.

The Matrix Awakens Won't Be Coming To PC

The new Matrix tech demo is, sadly, locked to new-gen consoles. The news could have been discerned from the end of the teaser trailer brandishing only the logos for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, but it has now been officially confirmed that The Matrix Awakens will not be coming to PC by an Epic Games Representative.

This is interesting considering the connection that the Matrix franchise has to computers, but maybe this was just planned as something to test the limits of new-gen consoles.

It looks like you're going to need to fork out for a new-gen console in order to take the red pill - sorry, PC gamers, you won't be stepping inside the Matrix today.
