We're going back to where it all started, with those long-rumoured whispers of a new-gen version of The Last of Us. It sounds like the 2013 classic is coming to PlayStation 5 with its own release.

Held as one of the best video games of all time, The Last of Us broke the wheel on the survival horror genre and gave its own twist on the shuffling corpse of zombie shooters. Following in the footsteps of the Uncharted games, Naughty Dog delivered another record-breaking IP.

Is The Last Of Us Getting A PS5 Remake?

[Update: 26 Oct 2023] - The Last of Us remake had a release date of September 2, 2022 for PlayStation and a release date of March 28, 2023 for PC.

The story of The Last of Us didn't end in 2013, with the Left Behind DLC in 2014, and The Last of Us Part II in 2020. We've been here before with revamps of the OG, thanks to a remastered version released back in 2014. That was eight years ago, and safe to say, graphics have come on a long way since then.

While the idea of a PS5 remaster is nothing new, the latest leak comes from noted leaker Tom Henderson. Although Henderson is usually known for his scoop on Call of Duty and Battlefield, he claims to have heard the PS5 version of The Last of Us is coming in the "latter half of 2022".

How Likely Is The Last Of Us Remake?

It's not too hard to imagine a "latter half" release for The Last of Us - especially as the early months are packed with the likes of Pokemon Legends: ArceusElden Ring, and Horizon Forbidden West. Then again, remember that the rest of the year is also (supposedly) jammed with Breath of the Wild 2God of War Ragnarok and Starfield

A better idea might be to hold off on a The Last of Us remaster until 2023. Tying in a new-gen overhaul for the 10-year anniversary would be a great way to celebrate. Either way, it looks increasingly likely Ellie will be drawing back her bow in the near future.

All of the above marries up with Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann doubling down on the news his team is working on "multiple" games. Although we can presumably discount The Last of Us Part 3, a new Uncharted, a TLoU remake, and the long-awaited Factions for Part II all seem likely. Let's see what 2022 has hiding up its sleeve.
