The Last Of Us Part 1 launches early for some lucky gamers
Gaming fans around the globe are ready to sink their teeth into Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part 1 like a Cordyceps-infected clicker, and although it's due out on September 2, some of you have been playing early.
Naughty Dog's OG The Last of Us first lumbered into our lives back in 2013, becoming one of the greatest games of all time. Sony has become a goldmine for Naughty Dog exclusives like Crash Bandicoot (the original) and Uncharted, but there were dwarfed by the zombie adventure.
How Can You Play The Last Of Us Part 1 Early?
For longer than we'd care to remember, there had been whispers of a new-gen The Last of Us. The surprise was ruined before Neil Druckmann got to announce it at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. Still, the team managed to keep a pretty tight lid on it considering the much-hyped remake is landing less than three months after it was announced.
Over on The Last of Us subreddit, u/Timely-Badger-2975 wrote, "Well this is a nice f**k up by a store. Got it 3 days before release." According to the OP, their copy of The Last of Us Part 1 landed on their doorstep ahead of the supposed September 2 release date. The game reportedly came from Mediamarkt in the Netherlands.
Playing The Last of Us Part 1 before your mates is all well and good, but as someone wrote in the replies, "I mean is not like you are going go spoil the game to anyone." It seems that this isn't an isolated incident. A few weeks ago, someone in America claimed their Target had a copy of The Last of Us Part 1 on the shelves. Unfortunately, they didn't buy it, so can't confirm whether it was actually for sale.
The Last Of Us Part 1 Is A Remake, Not A Remaster
It was as early as 2014 that Naughty Dog gave us a remastered version of The Last of Us. This is presumably why Part 1 has earned its name instead of stealing The Last of Us Remastered from its predecessor. In a lengthy blog, Sony has explained how The Last of Us Part 1 has been built from the ground up. This might explain why we've been warned there are actually spoilers out there when it comes to the likes of revamped combat.
Creative Director Shaun Escayg said, "To me, what makes this a remake instead of a remaster is the sum of its improvements. This isn’t just the same characters, environments, art direction, etc., performing on better hardware. We completely redesigned everything from the art direction, [lighting] technology to the character designs themselves." As well as making the most of the PS5's DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, Naughty Dog says it's applied everything it's learned over the past decade, meaning The Last of Us Part 1 should feel like a whole new game. Still, that $70 price tag is putting a lot of people off.
