If Naughty Dog didn't already deliver enough heartache in The Last of Us games, one morbid player has discovered a way to kill Tommy Miller in The Last of Us Part 2. Although Tommy is one of the lucky few to make it out of the 2020 game alive, it looks like some have different plans for Joel's chaotic younger brother.

Spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2 ahead

The Last of Us Part 2 is remembered for the brutal scene where Joel is bludgeoned to death by Abby Anderson. Adding more blood to her ledger, the golf club-swinging villain isn't content with just take out one of the Miller brothers.

For those asking how the whole thing works, it seems this game-breaking glitch isn't supposed to be there at all.

How can you kill Tommy in The Last of Us?

Posting on YouTube, Speclizer showed the moment that Abby can get the jump on Tommy and actually kill him during the sniper scene. Be warned though, you'll have to be quick. During the scene, Abby and fellow Washington Liberation Front member Manny are running away from a hidden sniper. It later transpires the mystery man is Tommy, with both sides dashing through the Seattle marina in an attempt to escape their attacker(s).

Usually, Tommy escapes Abby and Manny by evading them in the marina and pulling a shutter down to create a barrier. In the video, Speclizer shows that with some expert timing, Abby can slide under the shutter and confront Tommy face-on. Getting him in a headlock, Abby can then perform a stealth kill and bam - two Millers for the price of one.

Speclizer admitted that it took around 20 attempts to kill Tommy, and the feat takes some meticulous timing. The whole video is titled "Tiny Mistakes in The Last of Us Part 2", however, we'd be saying being able to kill Tommy is a pretty major one. Despite the video's name, Speclizer says, "Naughty Dog really did an outstanding job!”, and praises the record-breaking game.

What happens if you kill Tommy in The Last of Us?

Obviously, killing Tommy at this point in the game just wouldn't work. The marina scene usually plays out with Abby and Manny catching up with Tommy in the airport, the Infected being attracted, and Tommy murdering Manny with a headshot. Yara then joins the party and gets the upper hand on Tommy with a stab from a knife and a quick roll into the ocean. Thankfully, he survives and continues his vendetta against the WLF.

In the aftermath of Joel's death, Tommy is influential to the story. The video stops short of showing what happens next, but we imagine it glitches or somehow resets to before Tommy's death. Being able to pull off this trickshot means effectively running directly toward Tommy's gunfire, meaning Naughty Dog presumably didn't expect anyone would actually do it.

As for the rest of Tommy's post-marina arc, it's his late visit to Ellie and Dina's farmhouse that spurs the hardened Ellie to seek revenge on Abby. If it wasn't for Tommy's pep talk, we wouldn't have that bloody showdown, Ellie would still be able to play the guitar, and there'd be no cliffhanger for the inevitable The Last of Us Part 3. Still, as Easter eggs go, this is a doozy.
