The Last of Us is one of the most critically acclaimed games in history, and its HBO series is gearing up to bring the heart-wrenching story to the small screen. The series is already shaping up to be something special, with a budget unlike any series before it at $10 million per episode and a stacked cast starring The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal alongside fellow Game of Thrones alumni Bella Ramsey.

It’s looking like The Last of Us will be a faithful adaptation of the iconic and powerful game, and it’s a story that deserves to be told on a wider platform - so we can’t wait for it to do so. Especially now, as it looks like another key figure in making the game work is joining the team of the HBO series in a much more hands-on manner.

Neil Druckmann Joins The Last Of Us Series As Director

On top of his preexisting role of co-writer of the show, it looks like Neil Druckmann will be joining the HBO The Last of Us series as a director for at least one episode. The news comes from the Directors Guild of Canada, which The Last of Us leaks show Druckmann is joining the preexisting list of directors alongside Craig Mazin, Jasmila Zbanic, Kantemir Balagov and Peter Hoar.

This is great news for the series and its connection to the games. Safe to say, fans are very happy about it - and apparently, so are the Naughty Dog staff.

Naughty Dog Staff Member Reacts To Druckmann’s Director Status

“We’re in good hands. Let’s go @Neil_Druckmann!!!” she says.

The news of Druckmann’s new title on the series was discovered by many through Naughty Dog’s senior QA employee Gabby Llanillio, who tweeted about her glee in learning the news and adding credibility to the leak from the DGC.

The series already had enough hype propelling it, but knowing this extra direct connection to the original game is reassuring, to say the least. The Last of Us is supposedly coming to HBO Max in 2022 - but we’re not sure we can wait that long.
