The Internet Loses It Over Baffling Geodude Halloween Costume
The spooky season is well and truly upon us, and with this in mind, it's time to crack open the wardrobe, rummage up something creative, and dress as your favourite "sexy" version of something innocent.
As with any year, Pokemon costumes are sure to be big. Now, a Tweet has gone viral that highlights a hilarious costume for everyone's favourite earthy Pokemon - Geodude.
What is the Geodude costume?
The costume has an upper half that features Geodudeâs stern face and rocky biceps, while the bottom rather cleverly features a pattern common in the background of .PNG images. Itâs supposed to indicate that Geodude is floating, but the silliness of it just draws your eyes to the legs - making the fact this is an official Nintendo costume even funnier.
This isnât the first time that this particular costume has caught the internetâs eye. Back when it was unveiled in 2019, Twitter went equally as crazy. Apparently, Geodude became a mascot for the Iwate Prefecture. In Japanese, Iwate literally means 'rock hands', and as you may have noticed, Geodude is a sentient rock with hands. Complicated, I know.
Nintendo has also had plenty of odd merchandising before, so the Geodude costume seems almost run-of-the-mill by today's standards. Previously, we've seen giant Snorlax and Ditto beanbags for lounging around in style, plus a collaboration with Build-A-Bear to make a custom Gengar plush (with a regal-looking gown we might add).
What are people saying about the costume?
Many people seem to be in on the joke about Geodudeâs 'invisible' legs, leading to some hysterical Tweets. Others have shared their experiences with other Pokemon mascots, such as one user who met Eevee in the official Pokemon CafĂ© in Tokyo, and another who met the Head Chef Pikachu - who looks so adorable in his little costume.
With just a matter of days until Halloween, there will be plenty of Pokemon out and about trick-or-treating near you. Itâs incredible how all these years later, the multimedia franchise is still booming and embedded into the public consciousness that it seeps into our holiday celebrations.
One Twitter user even made an entire Pokemon-themed Halloween shrine on their mantlepiece, with Pikachu and Gengar pumpkins alongside Zoobat decorations to boot. Be on the lookout for a Geodude costume near you this Halloween. Just remember, itâs not actually floating.
