The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remake Moves Forward In Skyrim

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is fast approaching its ten-year anniversary, and it’s as strong as ever. Honouring the unwavering modding community - and given the new Anniversary Edition set to come out on November 11 - let's remember a specific mod that’s been in development for years. It's time to revisit the Skyblivion revamp that seeks to remake the fourth Elder Scrolls title, Oblivion, in Skyrim

What Is Skyblivion?

Skyblivion is a modding project that began development way back in 2012, which is just a year after Skyrim’s release. The project wants to port the full game of Oblivion into Skyrim’s newer engine.

The mod has its own website, where the developers explain a little about it, stating: "Skyblivion is a volunteer-based project by the TESRenewal modding group. We aim to bring the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion to a new generation of gamers and re-introduce it to long time fans of the series. We are currently in the process of porting and rebuilding Cyrodiil along with all of its quests, locations and characters into Skyrim and Skyrim: Special Edition."

"Upon release, our mod will be completely modular which means that the player will be able to choose what components he/she wants to have installed", the developers continue.

It will be completely free to download, however, players will need a copy of both games and their major expansions. These are Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles for Oblivion, and Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn for Skyrim.

When Can I Play Skyblivion?

There is currently no release date for Skyblivion, but it's making good progress and the developers have explained that with their team of core staff and volunteers, work is being done every day. They also release development logs and do streams over on their YouTube channel to showcase their progress.

In addition to the Skyblivion project, there is also Skywind - which hopes to similarly port The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind into the Skyrim engine. It’s also not finished yet, but Skyblivion and Skywind are making solid progress. We can expect both of these to come to fruition in the near future. It'll hopefully be before the next Elder Scrolls, and considering that seems an age away, here's hoping.
