The Fortnite Winterfest

The holiday season is just around the corner, which means that every game developer has or will introduce an event or some content cherishing the spirit and changing the rhythm of gameplay to make sure that the game isn’t boring or monotonous. Be it Apex, Call of Duty, or PUBG, all games have some inclusion of the winter theme.

Fortnite, the most grossing Battle Royal Game, isn’t lagging behind its counterparts as it too announced its winter event yesterday named, “Winterfest”. The announcement is a video of some in-game characters celebrating. This video is followed up by an article containing details of the update.

Although Fortnite generally releases a holiday-themed update way earlier; however, due to Star Wars integration, this update was postponed. Now that it has arrived let’s dive deeper into the fresh content it has to offer:

Gifts

With the release of this update, a snow-flake tab was added to the in-game lobby. Clicking it will redirect you to the Winterfest Lodge.

Even having the briefest glance of the picture above might’ve informed you of the gifts lying there. And let me tell you one thing – those are not props. Yes, you heard it right they are gifts containing in-game cosmetics. Amongst these gifts are:

  1. Two Pickaxes: Peppermint Pick and Shortbread Slicers
  2. Two Gliders: Treefall and Millenium Falcon
  3. A Music Pack
  4. 2 Wraps: New Year and Well Wrapped
  5. 2 Loading Screens
  6. A Contrail

FREE SKINS

The last 2 known prizes are perhaps the best amongst all of them combined and are quite surprising. If you are aware of the Fortnite scene you might know that every week or two new skins are released featuring new designs which usually cost around an average of 1000-1200 V-Bucks equivalent to $10-$12. This will be the first time in Fortnite’s history to give out free skins without any caveats.

Even though the event runs until the 2nd of January, players can redeem their gifts up until the 7th of January 2020.

Challenges

Challenges are the next in-game features which are likely to be brought in as a part of events and Fortnite since its initial release has been constantly introducing new challenges each offering an individual reward. For this event, they will be enabling one challenge per day for 14 days up to the 2nd of January.

These challenges will too be available from the winter lodge and can be accessed by clicking on the Christmas stocking.

LTM Rotations

Every day, for 14 days, new Limited Time Modes will be available to play. These modes will include, but are not limited to:

  1. Sneaky Silencers
  2. Wick’s Bounty
  3. Arsenal
  4. Slip N Slide

In addition to this, the community created Zone-Wars will be also available to play, which are the best way to practice end-game fights.

Map Changes

Significant map changes included the placement of Christmas decorations throughout the map. Moreover, the snow that initially existed in the south-east area has begun spreading to the east and north-east areas. This gradual expansion hints that in a few weeks the entire map is likely to be shrouded by layers of snow.

V11.31 Update

The update that released alongside Winterfest was petite and consisted mostly of Bug fixes and quality of life improvements. Only one new feature was introduced namely Battle Lab. This is what its description read:

•        Jump into your own Battle Royale island and set the rules! Select from favourite LTM loot pools, set up combat scenarios with the new Bot Grenades, and create your mode by setting options like gravity and fall damage.

•        Fill your game with up to 15 friends on your island, or matchmake with default options in a public Battle Lab.

It can be concluded that Battle Lab is a miniature version of the 100 player Battle Royale and it would be interesting to see how the response of the community and how this Feature develops encompassing more functionalities.
