Team BDS Rumoured To Be Purchasing $36M LEC Spot From Schalke 04
After their parent football club faced relegation from the Bundesliga, and a clear financial blow amid the global pandemic, Schalke 04 recently confirmed that they are set to sell their League of Legends European Championships (LEC) spot and cash in on the $36 million that comes with it.
The implications of the club's first relegation in 33 years from the top-flight of German football has left Schalke 04 now holding the chip ransom, with many of Europe's elite esports organisations looking to get involved.
Now, according to a Spanish outlet, Esportmaniacos, Team BDS are about to pounce.
Team BDS Set To Purchase LEC Spot From Schalke
The publication has revealed that their "sources" have been told Team BDS will be purchasing the spot, making their step up from the French National League to Europes main stage.
Esportsmaniacos also revealed that both Team Heretics and Giants Gaming were interested in the spot, but talks allegedly broke down with them refusing to meet the value price.
Should Team BDS secure the LEC spot, their inauguration wouldn't come into play until 2022, with Schalke contracted to play out the remainder of the season. As for the roster, it's still unsure whether BDS will choose to inherit the current players or opt to build their own roster, should rumours be true.
Who Are Team BDS?
The French esports organisation are most known for their dominance in the most recent season of Rocket League, where their trifecta of young stars stunned the region back in August 2020, and continued to win eight out of twelve regional events, including all three Major Championships.
Team BDS operate in the upper echelon of Rainbow 6, and recently signed a VALORANT roster too.
Should the Frenchmen acquire the Schalke 04 LEC spot, they could acquire Mid Lane prodigy Ilias "NUCLEARINT" Bizriken too, who will represent their country.
