Subliners Send Weird Harambe Message After Victory Over LA Guerrillas
The Call of Duty League season is quickly reaching its climax, as the penultimate event of the year gave chance for some teams to have a final hurrah, whilst others look to prepare for the World Championships.
Diving into the first day of action, Seattle Surge drowned out any hopes of Paris Legion notching up their first prize-worthy season of the year with a 3-1 victory.
Up next was the New York Subliners, who were still feeling the effects of the Clayster-shaped hole in their roster, after the three-time champion was still absent from his mental health break.
Sparring against the Los Angeles Guerrillas, also hoping to go out with a bang, the Subliners were able to pip the tie in the fifth game, sending LAG packing despite a stellar performance from Bryan "Apathy" Zhelyazkov.
With the victory, Subliners took to social media, although their input on the timeline had everyone a little bit perplexed.
Subliners Get Weird On The Timeline
The New York-based Andbox sub-franchise seemingly tried to play on the Guerrillas' team name, referencing dead gorilla Harambe.
Subliners tweeted "Made the LA Guerrillas look like Harambe", which was instantly ridiculed on the timeline.
Taking to the replies, their next opponent, Florida Mutineers, promised to avenge the Harambe joke by going "Ha-Rambo" on them, following a range of confused exclaims from fans and fellow CDL teams.
LA Guerrillas and Paris Legion Perish - Minnesota ROKKR stun FaZe
The highlight of Subliners' night though was the admirable performance of their IGL and SMG demon Obaid "Asim" Asim, who once again proved why he was given a chance on the roster following the retirement of Thomas "ZooMaa" Paparatto.
The result of the night went in favour of the Minnesota Rokkr, who were able to dump bookies favourites Atlanta FaZe into the lower bracket with a 3-1 victory. The rookie Eli "Standy" Bentz posted up incredible numbers in the tie, dominating the Tiny Terrors duo of Chris "Simp" Lehr and Tyler "aBeZy" Pharris - something very few players have done all year.
Toronto Ultra also set up an upper bracket fixture versus OpTic Chicago, after a map five victory over LA Thieves.
For the Guerrillas (not gorillas), their season is now over, having already missed out on a World Championship qualification spot. Still, not quite a deserving send-off from the Subliners...
