Thousands Of Steam Titles Will Let You Play With Friends Without An Account
Steam's March 22 update had a very exciting new feature hidden away in their patch notes - switching up Remote Play Together to include the capability to play with anyone!
The update stated: "Now you can Remote Play Together with anyone – no Steam account needed to join your game with the click of a link. Simply launch any of the thousands of games with support for Remote Play Together, then grab an invite link from your Friends list in the overlay. Send the link to your friend on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS or Android, and they can click your invite to join in the fun."
The new change will over 1000s of titles, including couch co-op faves Gang Beasts, Left 4 Dead 2, and Tekken 7, among countless others.
The update means that only one person has to own the game on Steam, then send an invite to begin playing remotely with their best pal.
There appeared to be some confusion online about the "newness" of this update, with one Steam user suggesting they had been using remote play "for months now", before being corrected by another commenter who explained that before, to invite somebody, they too needed to possess a Steam account, whereas now they can be sent a play together link even if they don't.
No longer needing the second player to have a Steam account is opening up the world of gaming remotely, at a time when we need it most.
The Remote Play Together update is live, so send out some invites and start playing all your fave games with your non-Steam friends now!
